Vettel heeft geen zin in Las Vegas: "Ik race liever op Bathurst"

De populariteit van de Formule 1 in de Verenigde Staten is de afgelopen jaren flink toegenomen. De hoge heren van de sport hebben daar handig gebruik van gemaakt en vanaf volgend jaar staan er drie Amerikaanse races op de kalender. Naast Miami en Austin trekt men dan namelijk ook naar gokparadijs Las Vegas.

In de jaren '80 reed men al in de stad in de staat Nevada, dat avontuur was echter geen succes. Waar de coureurs toen over een parkeerplaats reden, pakt men het dit keer iets anders aan. Volgend seizoen rijden de coureurs namelijk dwars door het centrum van Las Vegas, langs de beroemde hotels en casino's en over The Strip.

Bathurst

Veel coureurs kunnen haast niet wachten op de race in Las Vegas, niet iedereen deelt die mening. Aston Martin-coureur Sebastian Vettel vindt er namelijk niets aan. Uit recent opgedoken uitspraken die Vettel deed op het fanforum tijdens de Australische Grand Prix is hij duidelijk: "Ik race liever op Bathurst! We zouden dat geld dat we meenemen naar Vegas kunnen investeren in de fantastische circuits die er al zijn. Dat zijn trouwens echt een uitdaging zijn want dat circuit is monsterlijk."

Misdragen

Ook de stad Las Vegas is niet een favoriet bij Vettel. De Duitse viervoudig wereldkampioen is er geweest en vond het geen charmante plek: "Om eerlijk te zijn, ik ben wel eens in Vegas geweest. Ik vond het er niet bepaald leuk. Ik vond het er te druk en de mensen misdragen zich enorm. Niets tegen misdragen overigens maar het is gewoon zo dat ze te ver gaan. Vegas lijkt wel een soort hotspot voor mensen die zo ver gaan dat het niet grappig meer is."

Ik denk dat Vettel volgend jaar niet meer in de F1 zit. Dus Las Vegas is dan ook geen issue voor hem.

Ik stel voor dat Vettel volgend jaar stopt met F1 en de volledige verantwoordelijkheid krijgt in het uitzoeken van circuits waar de F1 gaat rijden. Dan gaan we in ieder geval naar echte circuits, kan de Formula E mooi de parkeerplaatsen onveilig maken.
