Tsunoda wisselt motorcomponenten en start als laatste in Canada

Niet Charles Leclerc maar Yuki Tsunoda heeft de twijfelachtige eer van de eerste motor gerelateerde gridstraf van het jaar gekregen. De Japanse AlphaTauri-coureur wisselde gisteren van vrijwel al zijn motoronderdelen, zo maakte autosportfederatie FIA bekend tijdens de eerste vrije training in Canada.

Tsunoda kreeg in Canada de beschikking over een nieuwe ICE, turbocharger, MGU-H en MGU-K. Van al deze motorcomponenten gebruikt Tsunoda zijn vierde exemplaar. Dat zijn er teveel dus dat betekent dat Tsunoda de Canadese Grand Prix vanaf de laatste startrij zal moeten starten. De stewards maakten deze beslissing gisteravond bekend, Tsunoda's team AlphaTauri maakt gebruik van Red Bull Powertrains-krachtbronnen.

Tsunoda was echter niet de enige coureur die in Canada de beschikking krijgt over nieuwe motoronderdelen. Ook Charles Leclerc, Esteban Ocon, Kevin Magnussen en thuisrijder Nicholas Latifi hebben nieuwe onderdelen ontvangen. Geen van hen is echter zo zwaar bestraft als de Japanse AlphaTauri-coureur. Het is nog niet duidelijk of Tsunoda in de kwalificatie überhaupt in actie gaat komen, hij zal immers toch als allerlaatste gaan starten. Het wordt de eerste Canadese Grand Prix uit de loopbaan van de Japanner.

Dat gaat hard bij sommige teams. Het valt me op dat we nu op ongeveer 1/3 van het seizoen zitten en nu al is 1/3 van de coureurs al aan het rijden met hun 3e of 4e PU. Een ware slijtageslag dus.

  Voor coureurs die het van dagsuccesjes moeten hebben maakt een keer een gridpenalty niet zoveel uit.
  Bovendien maakt starten vanaf p20 of p16 (of zo) ook niet zoveel verschil...

  Snap ik, maar mij gaat het meer om het geheel. Ik kan me namelijk niet herinneren dat vorig jaar ook al zo'n grote groep coureurs na 1/3 van het seizoen zoveel PU's er doorheen gejaagd hebben. Maar ik kan me vergissen, uiteraard.

Met de budgetcap krijgen we nog een race of 10, en dan is het op als ze zo door gaan. Kunnen we de laatste paar races weer echt ouderwets racen zoals Fred en Barney dat deden vroeger.
