Zhou wilde meer in kwalificatie: "P8 had erin gezeten"

Voor Guanyu Zhou werd de natte kwalificatie in Canada een groot succes. De Alfa Romeo-coureur plaatste zich voor het eerst voot Q3 en werd uiteindelijk tiende. Daar bovenop versloeg de F1-debutant zijn ervaren teamgenoot Valtteri Bottas voor de tweede maal op rij.

Zhou blikte terug op de enerverende sessie. "Het was echt een lastige sessie als je kijkt naar de weersomstandigheden. In het eerste deel van de kwalificatie kon je de auto voor je niet zien en in het laatste deel was het bijna helemaal droog", zei Zhou na afloop van de kwalificatie tegen Formula 1.

“Ik ben natuurlijk erg blij met mijn plaats bij de eerste tien al had P8 er misschien ook wel ingezeten. Ook als het morgen droog is verwacht ik dat we er weer goed bij zullen zitten. De snelheid in de race is eigenlijk altijd wel goed, ik zou niet weten waarom dat dit weekend anders zal zijn."

Zhou behaalde tot dusver één wk-punt bij de openingsrace in Bahrein en was op puntenkoers in Azerbeidzjan, maar viel uit met technische problemen.
