Albon worstelt: "Dit lossen we niet zomaar op met updates"

Het team van Williams is vooralsnog bezig met een vrij lastig seizoen. De Britse renstal hoopte op een sterk seizoen maar vooralsnog heeft alleen Alexander Albon punten gescoord. De Thai eindigde twee keer in de punten maar worstelt ,net als zijn teamgenoot Nicholas Latifi, met de auto.

Williams wil aansluiting vinden bij het middenveld maar vooralsnog is dat nog niet gelukt. Albon presteert regelmatig boven verwachting maar dat heeft nog maar geleid tot twee puntenfinishes. Latifi presteert zeer zwak en rijdt regelmatig diep in het achterveld. Alhoewel Albon al punten heeft gescoord is hij niet volledig tevreden met het huidige seizoen.

Balans

De Thaise Brit ziet dat de concurrentie langzamerhand wegkruipt bij Williams. Albon merkt dat er balansproblemen zijn en verwacht dat de problemen nog lang niet voorbij zijn. Hij spreekt zich uit bij Motorsport.com: "Iedereen is zich aan het ontwikkelen. Wij hebben ook al geen tijden een grote update gehad. Ook qua balans zit alles nog niet helemaal goed. We denken dan ook dat we dit niet zomaar oplossen met updates."

Moeilijk

Albon merkt dat de problemen vooral bij het ontwerp van de auto liggen. De Thai vestigt zijn hoop op de aankomende updates maar heeft er een hard hoofd in: "De meeste problemen zijn te wijten aan de karakteristieken van onze auto in de bochten. Hopelijk zorgt de update voor verbetering maar voorlopig is het nog heel erg lastig. Het ligt ook nog eens aan de baan. In Canada had je veel snelle chicanes maar het is moeilijk om een compromis te vinden voor het gehele rondje. Het schiet echt alle kanten op."

Williams had al jaren geen goede auto en het zou een illusie zijn om te verwachten dat ze nu een goed ontwerp zouden hebben. Zelfs met een oppermachtige mercedes motor reden ze achteraan hun rondjes. Dus nu de nieuwe motor minder goed is moeten ze het extra van hun ontwerp hebben.

Geld lijkt niet meer het grootste probleem bij Williams, misschien wel het ontbreken van de 'knapste koppen' in de fabriek.

Heb de cijfers niet gecheckt maar heb het idee dat Alex grote vriend Latifi minstens zo zoek rijdt als Russell met dubbel l dat deed...
