Zhou wil weer verder na horrorcrash: "Focus mij alleen op Oostenrijk"

De Formule 1-wereld werd afgelopen weekend opgeschrikt door de bizarre crash van Guanyu Zhou. De Chinese Alfa Romeo-coureur raakte betrokken bij een startcrash in de eerste bocht. Na contact met George Russell en Pierre Gasly vloog Zhou ondersteboven de grindbak in en stuiterde hij over de bandenstapel de hekken in.

Iedereen hield de adem in maar na geruime tijd werd Zhou uit zijn auto gehaald. De Chinees werd naar het medisch centrum vervoerd maar bleek in orde te zijn. Aan het einde van de Britse Grand Prix liep hij alweer door de paddock en kreeg de televisiekijker te zien hoe hij sprak met Formule 1-CEO Stefano Domenicali.

Verleden

Zhou wil zelf niet te lang stilstaan bij de crash in Silverstone. Aankomend weekend staat immers alweer de Oostenrijkse Grand Prix op het programma. In een persbericht van zijn team Alfa Romeo spreekt hij zich uit: "Toen ik Silverstone afgelopen zondag verliet keek ik er al naar uit om weer in de auto te stappen. Het was een grote crash en ik en dankbaar voor de veiligheidsmaatregelen die er in de afgelopen jaren zijn genomen. Hierdoor kon ik zonder verwondingen uitstappen. Het behoort nu echter tot het verleden en ik focus mij alleen op het weekend in Oostenrijk."

Sprint

De Chinees reist in ieder geval vol vertrouwen af naar Spielberg, waar men voor de tweede keer dit seizoen een sprint afwerkt. Zhou heeft er zin in: "Onze performance zag er in Groot-Brittannië goed uit. De auto voelde goed dus ik kan niet wachten om verder te gaan waar we waren gebleven na de kwalificatie. We hebben weer een sprintkwalificatie dit weekend, mijn tweede na Imola. Ik kijk ernaar uit want het is een goede kans om onszelf voor zondag in een goede positie te krijgen."

Volgens mij raakt Gasly Zhou helemaal niet eens.. en is het 100% onze GPDA voorzitter die die aanstichter van deze onnozele crash!!! Mag ik dat zeggen?

Ik heb de kwalificatie gemist maar ik zag dat Zhou er weer goed bij zat. Hij doet het toch echt beter dan verwacht hoor.

  Bottas is gewoon een dweil in het nat, altijd al geweest. In Canada zat hij dan inderdaad ook voor Bottas, maar Bottas eindigt er in de race dan toch wel gewoon weer voor.

Ik vond t allemaal wel meevallen, die crash van m. Ja ondersteboven maar landde keurig en de meeste energie was er toen wel uit. Horrorcrash , dat was die klapper van Grosjean, of Verstappen vorig jaar op Silverstone. Dit zag er wild en spectaculair uit, dat wel.

  weet je, ik heb de crash nog eens teruggekeken maar ik miste de flikflak,
  afgekeurd dus, opnieuw Zhou!
