Vasseur onthult bizar feit over Zhou-crash: "Krachten bijna twee keer zwaarder dan bij crashtest"

Alfa Romeo-coureur Guanyu Zhou werd twee weken geleden wereldnieuws dankzij zijn huiveringwekkende crash in Silverstone. De Chinees werd geraakt door George Russell en werd gelanceerd. Hij schoof ondersteboven de grindbak in en stuiterde vervolgens de bandenstapel over. Hij eindigde in de hekken en werd pas na geruime tijd uit zijn wagen gehaald door de marshalls en het medische team.

Zhou was wonderwel ongedeerd en stond afgelopen weekend gewoon weer aan de start in Oostenrijk. Dat de crash van Zhou niet mals was bleek wel na afloop. De Alfa Romeo van Zhou was bij de crash namelijk over het asfalt geschoven en daarbij waren serieuze gaten in het circuit ontstaan.

Krachten

Ook de krachten op de Halo en de wagen waren enorm. Het team van Alfa Romeo opende na afloop een onderzoek en men zag iets opmerkelijks. Teambaas Frédéric Vasseur besprak het met Motorsport.com: "Het onderzoek is nog bezig. Maar op het eerste gezicht bleek dat de krachten die vrij kwamen bij de crash bijna twee keer zwaarder zijn dan de belasting tijdens de verplichte crashtests."

Groef

Vasseur was zich bewust van de veroorzaakte schade aan het circuit van Silverstone. Op sociale media ging een foto rond van het gat op het start/finish-gedeelte van de baan. Vasseur: "We hebben een groef van een centimeter of vijf in het asfalt gegraven. Het niveau van de crashtest maakt dus helemaal niets uit want het kan altijd erger gaan. We moeten natuurlijk zelf actie ondernemen en we gaan samen met de FIA kijken hoe we de veiligheid kunnen verbeteren."

Crashtests zijn genormeerd voor auto t/m 600kg niet van 800 kilo, dus dat de krachten dan 2 keer zo groot worden is niet raar, dat klopt natuurkundig namelijk.
Om 2x keer zo hard te gaan heb je het kwadraat aan energie nodig, zelfde geld voor negatieve versnelling, vertraging dus.

Hun gebruiken een buis als roll bar. Zou het bij een echte roll bar niet anders zijn afgelopen?

  Ja, waarschijnlijk wel. Op het youtube kanaal van Driver61 staat een mooie uitleg over de twee verschillende rollbars waarvan het design van Alfa Romeo nogal vraagtekens kan oproepen.
  
  Buiten dat heeft de rollbar het prima gehouden, hij is compleet teruggevonden. Het "anker" heeft het echter begeven.

  Bijna goed. Als de SNELHEID 2x zo hoog is heb je 4x zoveel kinetische enrgie.
  Als het GEWICHT verdubbeld is de kinetische energie 2x zo groot.
  
  E=0.5 x mv2, m=massa, v=snelheid.
  
  De impuls is bij een verdubbeling van 1 van beide grootheden altijd een verdubbeling: p=mv.
  
  Dus zowel de e(kin) als p is ongeveer 33% groter

  Nog iets: Waar de coureur last van heeft is zijn impuls. De coureur wil namelijk niet van richting veranderen of versnellen etc. Belangrijk hierbij is dat impuls een vector heeft, dus een richting. De coureurs zijn niet zwaarder of lichter geworden, dus voor de coureur maakt het gewicht van de auto geen verschil. Sterker nog: een zwaardere auto zal minder snel versnellen en moeilijker van richting veranderen. Het enige verschil is dat een auto ook minder snel snelheid kan verliezen, dus een plotselinge snelheidsverandering KAN iets zwaarder zijn voor de coureur. Een zwaardere auto heeft echter ook een hogere wrijvingscoëfficient, zodat een gedeelte van die extra e(kin) daardoor wordt weggewerkt.
  
  Terugkomend, en samenvattend: Die Zhou crash was een freak ongeluk, wat bij een lichtere auto ook dubbel de krachten had opgeleverd.
