AlphaTauri komt met grote update in Frankrijk

Het team van AlphaTauri is niet bepaald bezig met het beste seizoen uit haar bestaan. De Italiaanse zusterrenstal van Red Bull Racing worstelt en staat slechts achtste in de tussenstand bij de constructeurs. Coureurs Pierre Gasly en Yuki Tsunoda kunnen dan ook maar weinig uitrichten met de huidige wagen.

Afgelopen weekend eindigde de race in Oostenrijk in een bittere teleurstelling voor AlphaTauri. Gasly en Tsunoda reden kleurloos rond in het achterveld nadat Gasly een dag eerder al van de baan was getikt in de sprint. De Fransman was het zat en smeekte zijn team om updates om beter voor de dag te kunnen komen.

Frankrijk

Het team heeft in ieder geval goed nieuws voor de mokkende Gasly. De gewenste updates komen er namelijk aan. Op het circuit van Paul Ricard kan men er al over beschikken. Technisch directeur Jody Egginton legt de situatie uit bij Motorsport.com: "We hebben een duidelijk beeld over wat we moeten aanpakken. Voor Frankrijk hebben we een grote update voor het bodywork en de vloer. Het doel hiervan is om de zwakke plekken aan te pakken."

Aerodynamica

In tegenstelling tot de andere teams heeft AlphaTauri nog geen grote updates doorgevoerd. Egginton heeft zijn hoop inmiddels gevestigd op de aankomende updates: "Wij lopen niet echt synchroon met de andere teams. Als de update levert wat we verwachten, dan geeft het ons een auto die makkelijker is af te stellen. Het gaat om een aerodynamische update, daar wordt momenteel de strijd om gestreden."

Nou. Die doet het niet bepaald geweldig bij McLaren. 2 jaar aan de auto van dit jaar gewerkt, met het maximum budget. En ze zijn op zijn best 4de team.

  Nee, ik bedoelde AT @Snailer, dat werd van Minardi Toro Rosso en toen AlphaTauri.
  
  Nieuw-Zeelander Bruce McLaren heeft McLaren in 1963 vanuit het niets opgericht. Vanaf 1966 rijdt het team mee in de F1. In '74 werd voor het eerst het WK gewonnen (Fittipaldi) gevolgd door het wereldkampioenschap van de legendarische James Hunt in 1976...

Een sympathieke club, maar Alpha Tauri heeft helemaal geen ambitie om zelf voor het kampioenschap te strijden. SAT moet rijders klaarstomen voor RBR en verder RBR op de baan waar mogelijk helpen en vooral niet in de weg rijden.

Als laatste trede van het RBJT-opleidingdprogramm is het meer een veredeld GP2-team dan een volwaardig F1-team. Logisch dat Gasly weg wil.
