Vasseur zoekt naar trainingsmogelijkheid voor Pourchaire

Sinds dit seizoen zijn alle Formule 1-teams verplicht om minimaal twee keer een rookie in te zetten in een vrije training tijdens het seizoen. Het seizoen is inmiddels op de helft en opvallend genoeg hebben nog maar weinig teams al een rookie ingezet.

Het team van Alfa Romeo profiteerde in Bahrein van hun debutant Guanyu Zhou. De Chinees voldeed aan de vereisten van een rookie en telde dus ook als zodanig. In Spanje voldeden ook Williams en Red Bull Racing aan hun rookie taak. De later ontslagen Jüri Vips kwam in actie voor Red Bull en de Nederlander Nyck de Vries reed voor het team van Williams. Daarna bleef het echter stil bij de andere teams.

Pourchaire

Het eerder genoemde Alfa Romeo heeft hun rookie-coureur al op het oog: Theo Pourchaire. De Fransman rijdt momenteel in de Formule 2 en teambaas Frederic Vasseur legt de situatie uit aan de media-afdeling van de Formule 1: "We zoeken naar een VT1-sessie omdat dit volgens de regels moet. Maar als we die zoeken dan moet je er ook rekening mee houden dat er ook nog Formule 2-races zijn, er zijn sprints en we hebben ook nog races waar we banden moeten testen."

Singapore

De keuze van het circuit waar het Grand Prix-weekend vindt speelt ook nog mee. Volgens Vasseur is dit namelijk zeer belangrijk in de beslissing: "Je kan je niet voorstellen dat je de rookie een sessie geeft in bijvoorbeeld Singapore. Zelfs Suzuka is lastig, zelfs als je meeweegt dat Max dat jaren terug heeft gedaan. We hebben dan niet zoveel races meer over. Maar we vinden wel een oplossing, maak je maar geen zorgen. Het is ook verplicht volgens de regels."

Het lijkt me handig om een circuit te nemen waar F2/F3 ook rijdt omdat de rookie dan de baan beter kent. Ook heeft de coureur die zijn stoeltje moet afstaan al meer kennis van die baan waardoor het minder pijn doet.

Voor Alfa lijkt Monza me een goede optie, kan je meteen zien wat de druk van de Tifosi op die jongen doet.

  Succesvolle F1 rijders moeten overal kunnen rijden. Ik zie dat stukje niet zo.
  Voor mij moet het circuit vooral voldoen aan de F1 eisen. Een F1 goedgekeurd circuit dus.
  
  Off topic. Van hem hoor je eigenlijk niet zo heel veel. Maar ik heb toch mooie races van hem gezien. Mij lijkt hij bijvoorbeeld beter dan een aantal van Red Bull gesponsorde rijders. Hoewel van hen een aantal nog wel gevormd moeten worden. Zou het door Piastri komen dat over pourchaire amper wordt gesproken?

  Het zou een beetje vreemd zijn als ze een vrije training rijden op een niet goedgekeurd circuit lijkt me?

  Ik snap ook wel wat ik je zegt, Patrick. Maar ik bedoel precies dat: Een F1 goedgekeurd circuit. En misschien wel het tegenovergestelde van wat jij zegt: Doe maar een circuit dat de rijder niet kent. Het zal meer info geven over het aanpassingsvermogen bijvoorbeeld. Hoewel dat ook niet moet worden overschat. De rijder zal vast al in de sim gezeten hebben.
  
  En over de Vries... Ja. Inderdaad! ene Larry noemt hem en ene Perkins. En dan nog een Larry en een Perkins... En een Larry.
  
  Die de Vries moet wel een held zijn die alles wint in de FE denk ik.
