McLaren ontkent overstap van Sebastian Vettel

Andreas Seidl heeft de speculatie dat Sebastian Vettel voor 2023 een spectaculaire overstap naar McLaren kan maken ontkend. Hoewel viervoudig wereldkampioen Vettel in Paul Ricard zei dat de contractbesprekingen met Aston Martin nu zijn begonnen, werd hem gevraagd naar geruchten die hem in verband brengen met het stoeltje van de worstelende Daniel Ricciardo.

Ricciardo had vrijdag al gereageerd over zijn vertrek bij McLaren en mogelijk afscheid van de Formule 1, en herhaalde zijn toewijding aan het laatste jaar van zijn contract in 2023. Verwijzend naar zijn eerdere verklaring op social media, werd hij door Speed Week geciteerd: "Dat was mijn manier om te zeggen dat wanneer ik de Formule 1 verlaat, het nog steeds aan mij is om te beslissen. Er was zoveel gepraat, er is zoveel onzekerheid, dus het was belangrijk voor mij om mensen te laten weten: ik wil hier zijn."

McLaren-baas Seidl bevestigde in Frankrijk: "We hebben een contract met Daniel voor volgend jaar. Dus er zijn geen twijfels. Zoals Daniel zelf zegt, is het geen geheim dat hij het dit jaar moeilijk heeft gehad met de nieuwe auto om dat laatste beetje snelheid te vinden dat Lando regelmatig wel lukt. Hij werkt heel intensief samen met het team in Woking in de simulator om te zien wat hij kan doen om deze laatste percentages te vinden."

Geen plek voor Vettel

Of Vettel in 2023 kans maakt op een stoel bij het Britse team, benadrukte Seidl: "Dat kan ik zeker uitsluiten. Ik heb veel respect voor hem als coureur en als persoon, maar meer dan dat is er niet."

Seidl zei echter te hopen dat Vettel ook na dit jaar in de Formule 1 blijft. "Ik wens het hem en de fans van de Formule 1 zeker toe, maar uiteindelijk moet hij dat met zichzelf en zijn team zien uit te werken."

  Ik denk dat die contracten, met alle bepalingen, voorwaarden, clausules, en wat nog meer, een heel wat dikker boekwerk is dan ik zou willen lezen.
  Dus, nee, zou er niet te luchtig over denken.

Ik denk niet dat Mclaren er veel mee gaat opschieten als Ricciardo vervangen gaat worden door Vettel.. Zet dan iemand als Piastri erin.
