Updates bij Mercedes lijken niet te werken: "Het gat is enorm"

Voorafgaand aan de Franse Grand Prix werd Mercedes vooral in de Britse pers bewierookt en als outsider of zelfs favoriet gezien voor de zege in Paul Ricard. Daar lijkt het op dit moment zeker niet op, ondanks de vierde en zesde kwalificatieposities van Lewis Hamilton en George Russell.

Het gat naar Ferrari en Red Bull is echter groot te noemen. Hamilton en Russell staan respectievelijk op 9 tienden en 1.2 seconden achterstand, iets waar ben bij Mercedes ook verbaasd over is.

Teambaas Toto Wolff: "Het gat is gewoon echt enorm. We kwamen hier naartoe met de verwachting dat we een stap vooruit zouden maken omdat dit circuit ons wel ligt. In plaats van een stap vooruit blijken we een stap achteruit te hebben gezet."

Updates werken niet

Het Duitse team bracht updates mee maar weet niet of de updates werken. Wolff: "Je voelt niet echt of die updates werken. De concurrentie is uiteraard ook niet gestopt, maar het gat was zo enorm groot - eigenlijk het gehele weekend staan we op deze achterstand. We kunnen ons niet echt vergelijken met Leclerc omdat hij die slipstream kreeg, maar met Verstappen is het gat alsnog 6 tienden. Als je updates op je wagen hebt, zou dat niet moeten gebeuren."

    Dit jaar gaat het hem niet worden en zelfs volgend jaar denk ik dat ze tekort gaan komen omdat ze helemaal opnieuw moeten gaan beginnen.

    Wat ik niet begrijp, de 1e test Barcelona zaten ze er gewoon heel goed bij, wie of wat heeft ze doen beslissen, om met deze configuratie t seizoen te starten

      In Barcelona heeft geen enkel team iets laten zien, dus dat zegt helemaal niets. Een van de dagen was zelfs McLaren de snelste. Dus je kunt helemaal niet zeggen dat ze er daar goed bijzaten.

    Ik zag vandaag een foto voorbij komen met aantal winst voor rijders die de 300e GP voorbij komen en het aantal overwinningen na hun 300e GP die teller stond voor allemaal op 0.

    Gaat Hamilton daar na morgen verandering in brengen?

    Blijf het herhalen, het basis ontwerp van de auto klopt waarschijnlijk niet.. Dat ga je dus niet oplossen met wat updates.. Zou mij niks verbazen als Mercedes volgend seizoen met een compleet nieuwe andere auto komt..

      Als je al zoveel update’s hebt geïnstalleerd, en feitelijk nog geen steek dichterbij bent gekomen, lijkt het een uitzichtloze situatie. Dit seizoen gaat hem niet worden, vanaf nu alles op volgend seizoen zetten.
      De auto is onberekenbaar, en ze weten niet waarom het soms wel aardig gaat, en de volgende race weer niet.
      Er zit ergens structureel een fout in het ontwerp,….tenminste zo zie ik het als leek….;)
      In het verleden konden ze met vermogen een hoop goedmaken, maar dat vermogen wat ze altijd extra hadden, is niet meer, het moet nu puur van het chassis komen.

      Geloof me, Toto is al flink aan de weg aan t timmeren voor volgend jaar. Gewoon zorgen dat alle neuzen vd FIA dezelfde kant van MB op staan en dat lijkt al aardig te lukken. Hopelijk kan Ferrari iets nuttigs doen met haar vetorecht 🙏🏻

    Toto na dit weekend: “Het gat naar RB en Ferrari is echt enorm. Ik ben er gewoon van geschrokken. Zij maken grote gaten. Als je het mij vraagt, is dat gat gewoon TE groot. Ik denk dat zo’n groot gat hartstikke onveilig is. Het gat is zo groot dat Lewis en Russell er zelfs in verdwijnen.
    De FIA moet iets doen aan dat gat voor er nog iets vreselijks gebeurd.

    Volgens Lewis staat dit seizoen als in het teken van de ontwikkeling van volgend jaar.
    Ze weten in ieder geval hoe de rest het doet en hoe, en waar het bij mer misgaat.
