Williams beboet na opvallende overtreding bandenregels

Het team van Williams begon zeer sterk aan de zaterdag in Hongarije. Op verrassende wijze noteerde Nicholas Latifi de snelste tijd in de natte derde vrije training. De verwachtingen voor de kwalificatie waren dan ook hooggespannen maar ondanks een snelste sector van Latifi vielen beide coureurs af. Ook Alexander Albon kon dus geen potten breken.

Albon reed de zeventiende tijd terwijl Latifi niet verder kwam dan de twintigste en laatste tijd. Na afloop van de kwalificatie moest men zich ook nog eens melden bij de stewards. Het team had namelijk een opvallende overtreding begaan bij de auto van Albon. De Britse Thai had namelijk gereden op banden die elektrisch waren teruggestuurd naar bandenleverancier Pirelli. Alhoewel de stewards ervanuit gaan dat het een administratieve fout was heeft men toch actie ondernomen. Williams heeft namelijk een boete van 1000 euro gekregen.

      Ja lekker onduidelijk inderdaad. Wat er eigl uitgelegd had moeten worden is “dat de banden die na de vrije training teruggestuurd worden naar Pirelli, dus niet gebruikt mogen voor kwalificatie en race gemonteerd zijn voor Q1. Dit is een administratieve fout. De banden waren gesanned (elektrisch terug) en behoorde dus niet meer tot de selectie banden die gebruikt mogen worden voor de kwalificatie en race”
