Voormalig Ferrari-kopstuk eist vertrek strategisch directeur: "Nooit een positieve indruk achtergelaten"

Het team van Ferrari is momenteel bezig met aardig sterk seizoen. Ferrari vecht met Red Bull Racing om de zeges maar staat wel zeer ver achter in het wereldkampioenschap. Deze achterstand valt voor een gedeelte te wijten aan problemen en blunders van Ferrari zelf. De kritiek op het team begint dan ook stevig toe te nemen.

In de eerste seizoenshelft van dit seizoen vielen Ferrari-coureurs Carlos Sainz en Charles Leclerc meermaals uit met betrouwbaarheidsproblemen. Maar niet alleen deze problemen zorgen voor puntenverlies, ook de tactiek van Ferrari valt regelmatig tegen. In Hongarije gooide men bijvoorbeeld een goed resultaat van Leclerc weg door hem de baan op te sturen op de slecht presterende harde band.

Elkann

Het geklungel op tactisch gebied leidt tot ergernis bij veel fans en volgers. Men is dan ook van mening dat er moet worden gekeken naar een mogelijke ontslagronde. Ook voormalig Ferrari-kopstuk Cesare Fiorio hoopt op verandering. In gesprek met Autosprint is hij duidelijk: "Ik had verwacht dat John Elkann (executive chairman van Ferrari, red.) actie zou ondernemen na Hongarije. Jammer genoeg zijn er al veel fouten gemaakt."

Rueda

Fiorio is echter van mening dat Ferrari-teambaas Mattia Binotto niet moet vertrekken. De Italiaan looft Binotto aangezien hij weer een winnend team van Ferrari heeft gemaakt. Volgens Fiorio moet strategisch directeur Inaki Rueda wel vrezen voor zijn baan: "Binotto mag blijven maar dat geldt niet voor Rueda. Hij heeft nooit echt een positieve indruk achter gelaten bij de teams waarvoor hij werkte."

Is het verrassend dat een Spaanse hoofdstrateeg de Spaanse coureur Sainz steeds de betere strategie geeft. Het is op z’n minst opmerkelijk te noemen. Ik dacht ik gooi eens een balletje op.

  Heeft denk ik meer te maken met dat Sainz wat mondiger is. Ik kan niet helemaal uitsluiten dat nationalistische sentimenten een rol spelen, maar het zou wel erg onprofessioneel zijn, dus ik geloof er niet in en bovendien kunnen Spanjaarden ook elkaar haten. Xevi Pujolar had niets met Sainz bijvoorbeeld. Maar die komt uit Catelonië, terwijl Rueda net als Sainz uit Madrid komt, dus wellicht is er toch een sterkere connectie dan ik vermoed. Al kan het ook zijn dat Rueda een Atletico Madrid fan is.

  Ferrari heeft toentertijd Vettel's wagen ook gesaboteerd zodat de beslissing om voor Leclerc te gaan beter uitgelegd kon worden.

  Bij een reorganisatie in verband met slecht presteren hoeft niet altijd de manager de klos te zijn natuurlijk.
  
  Als ik zo terugkijk naar de strategie bij Ferrari, dan is die al heel lang erg matig. Slecht kan ik ook weer niet zeggen (dit jaar wel). Ik kan me zelfs herinneren dat Alonso een titel misliep door een aantal matige strategische keuzes.
  
  Maar als ex bazen zich melden, dan vermoed ik dat de lobby voor een vertrek is geinitieerd door Ferrari.

Daarom is het ook een voormalig Ferrari kopstuk. Gaat het niet lekker, de botte bijl erin en onrust veroorzaken. Managementstijl uit het stenen tijdperk. Iemand moet de sjaak zijn en dan weer op dezelfde voet verder. Van mij mag het, dan is Max helemaal snel kampioen.
