COTA-baas ziet Formule 1 steeds populairder worden in Verenigde Staten

De Formule 1 is in de afgelopen jaren steeds populairder geworden. De populariteit van de koningsklasse van de autosport is zelfs zo sterk gegroeid dat men voet aan grond heeft gezet in de Verenigde Staten. Het grote land was jarenlang een haast onbereikbare plek maar inmiddels is alles anders.

De gegroeide populariteit komt mede door de Netflix-reeks Drive to Survive. De sport is zelf zo populair in de V.S dat er aankomend seizoen drie Amerikaanse Grands Prix op de kalender staan. De race op het inmiddels ingeburgerde Circuit of the Americas krijgt gezelschap van Miami en Las Vegas. De Grand Prix in Miami stond dit jaar voor het eerste op de kalender en Las Vegas keert volgend jaar terug.

Op COTA merkt men dat de vraag naar kaartjes zeer groot is. COTA-voorzitter Bobby Epstein meldt zelfs dat er een nieuwe tribune wordt gebouwd. Tegenover Motorsport.com spreekt hij zich uit over de groeiende interesse in de States: "Als alles momenteel niet is uitverkocht, dan is het wel zo goed als uitverkocht. Dat was eigenlijk al binnen twee dagen na de start van de verkoop in de lente al het geval. Het is echt verbazingwekkend. De vraag in de Verenigde Staten is momenteel bizar. Deze vult makkelijk drie races en misschien wel meer."

    Ik snap niet waarom steeds Drive to Survive erbij wordt gehaald, de F1 is mega gegroeid sinds Max Verstappen de boel heeft wakker geschud!

    Ik hoop alleen niet dat er een trend gaat komen dat er op meer Amerikaanse parkeerplaatsen worden geracet. In Indycars ziet die brug in Nashville er leuk uit, maar het is een verschrikkelijke baan.

      Wat mij betreft mogen ze "Watkins Glen" terug brengen op de F1 kalender, als er nou toch zo nodig een GP bij moet komen. Mooie oldskool baan !

    Van mij mogen ze de VS wel een jaartje overslaan, F1 zal er nooit een grote sport worden.

    Blijf maar lekker in de EU, Azië aantal circuits, nee weg bij die lui in de VS, Austin is meer dan genoeg.

      Een paar races in de VS hoeft niet verkeerd te zijn, COTA was vorig jaar stijf uitverkocht en dat zag er prachtig uit. Road America lijkt me best mooi om heen te gaan. Ze hebben mooie banen genoeg! Miami en Las Vegas hoeft van mij dan weer niet.

      COTA is heel goed te pruimen, Miami vond ik een slecht circuit. Ik vrees dat Vegas helemaal een USA show wordt.

    Ik vraag me af hoe het porpoising zich hier zal uiten.
    De laatste jaren was het circuit nou niet bepaald een biljartlaken.

    En alhoewel alle teams zich wel verbeterd hebben en het fenomeen de laatste races niet echt de kop opstak, kan het op een hobbelig circuit zomaar weer een ding worden...

    Ben beniwud of er teams zullen zijn die van de FIA de wagen instellingen moeten aanpassen om het stuiteren tegen te gaan.

    Verder wel een leuk circuit met al een aantal leuke, spectaculaire races.

      Redelijk snel circuit, waar ik denk dat veel teams issues gaan hebben met de hobbelige baan en de huidige ultrastijve auto’s. Of porpoising een issue gaat zijn? Ik denk eerder het stuiteren.
