Wolff vertrouwt op Hamilton: "Geen contact gehad met een andere coureur"

Het team van Mercedes kende een zeer lastige start van het huidige seizoen. De regerend constructeurskampioen lag ver achter op Ferrari en Red Bull Racing. Ook stercoureur Lewis Hamilton had het zwaar en zijn prestaties vielen dan ook tegen. Bij Mercedes ging men er nooit vanuit dat Hamilton zou opgeven.

Hamilton wilde sportieve revanche nemen nadat hij vorig seizoen het titelduel verloor van Max Verstappen. In de eerste helft van het seizoen had de Brit het echter zeer zwaar. In de laatste races voor de zomerstop ging het iets beter maar nog steeds vallen zijn resultaten tegen vergeleken met de voorgaande jaren. Bij Mercedes is het vertrouwen in Hamilton echter onverminderd groot.

Hoop

Teambaas Toto Wolff wil niets weten van een verminderde inzet van Hamilton of een vroegtijdig vertrek van de Brit. Wolff zocht in de eerste seizoenshelft ook geen contact met mogelijke vervangers, zo laat hij weten aan Motorsport.com: "Ik heb geen contact gehad met een andere coureur. Zelfs als het seizoen zou mislukken zouden Lewis en ik op basis van hoop bij elkaar zijn gebleven. We zijn ook al een paar maanden in gesprek over of het nog vijf of tien jaar gaat duren."

Positief

Wolff ziet echter dat Hamilton optrad als een soort motivator van het team. De Oostenrijkse teambaas is dan ook zeer trots op zijn stercoureur: "Het is natuurlijk geen leuke ervaring. Maar na een paar races zag je hoe speciaal hij was. Hij schikte zich naar de situatie en was alleen maar bezig met hoe we de auto weer vooraan konden krijgen. Zelfs als ik mij niet op mijn best voelde was hij altijd de positiefste persoon. Hij beurde iedereen op, ook als hij zijn handen vol had aan zijn auto."

Ik vertrouw ook op Hamilton. Nog 1 jaar 2023... en dan uit de F1 als coureur. Gezien zijn band met Wolff, kan t maar zo dat hij een soort gelijke rol als Lauda kan opnemen. Hamilton heeft al wel eens aangegeven te willen kijken naar andere activiteiten voor/binnen Mercedes.

Zou mooi zijn als Lec, Ver & Ham volgend jaar er een drie strijd van weten te maken

  Ik verwacht Hamilton juist totaal niet in een teamleider achtige rol.
  Eerder ambassadeur van Mercedes en iets in het activisme of mensen bewust maken van standpunten en leefwijzen die hij steunt.

  Oke hij had ook nog aandelen, maar volgens mij bemoeide hij zich niet met waar bijvoorbeeld de poppetjes geplaatst moesten worden of de regelementen.

  @beri daar heb je gelijk in. Maar ik denk dat het contract toch ondertekend is door iemand anders dan Lauda. Ik bedoelde daarnaast ook meer de ingenieurs, monteurs, R&D mensen etc.
  
  Lauda's takenpakket was een heel stuk kleiner dan dat van Toto.
  
  Ik denk ook wel dat Lewis graag een stem zou willen hebben in wie zijn opvolger wordt en dus bijvoorbeeld Lando probeert te overtuigen zoals Lauda bij hem deed.

Het lijkt wel of ie gaat parachute springen op de foto maar wat Toto zegt klopt voor geen meter Lewis is de eerste die de auto naar binnen wil halen om de motor te sparen en de mercedes motor gaat nooit kapot en waar is zn mondkapje gebleven
