Pirelli waarschuwt coureurs voor aangepast Spa: "Ze moeten meer letten op de track limits"

Aankomend weekend gaat het Formule 1-circus weer verder met de Belgische Grand Prix. Het weekend op het circuit van Spa-Francorchamps is geliefd onder veel coureurs en fans. Men zal dit weekend wel moeten wennen want het circuit is in de winter flink aangepast. Ook bandenleverancier Pirelli waarschuwt de coureurs.

Het circuit van Spa is geliefd onder de coureurs maar kreeg in de afgelopen jaren ook veel kritiek. Het circuit zou namelijk te gevaarlijk zijn en de eigenaren van de baan luisterden naar de kritiek. Er werden dan ook nieuwe uitloopzones en grindbakken gerealiseerd. De lay-out is hetzelfde gebleven maar de omgeving buiten het asfalt is flink onder handen genomen.

Veranderingen

Bandenleverancier Pirelli weet dat dit voor meer uitdagingen gaat zorgen. Pirelli's motorsportdirecteur Mario Isola denkt dat de aangepaste baan een compleet nieuwe uitdaging gaat vormen. In de vooruitblik van Pirelli spreekt Isola zich uit: "Spa heeft dit jaar één van de grootste veranderingen meegemaakt sinds we hier heen gaan in de modern era. Maar dankzij de recente 24-uursrace weten we wat we kunnen verwachten. We hebben ook wat samples van het asfalt meegenomen."

Track limits

Isola ziet dat een aantal nieuwe grindbakken veel dichter op het circuit liggen. De banden-man denkt dat dit een extra uitdaging zal zijn voor de coureurs: "De coureurs moeten meer letten op de track limits. De kans dat er gravel op de baan belandt is ook groter. Maar de epische vormen van Spa zijn nog steeds onveranderd. Al die traditionele uitdagingen zorgen ervoor dat het circuit nog steeds zo spannend is."

Helaas hoogstwaarschijnlijk voor het laatst, een schande dat deze baan wordt ingeruild voor een baantje in de zandbak of op een parkeerplaats !
