Latifi ziet zichzelf groeien: "Sterke positie laten zien in laatste paar races"

Nicholas Latifi moet zich momenteel zorgen maken over zijn toekomst in de Formule 1. De Canadese Williams-coureur heeft nog geen contract voor volgend seizoen en er liggen meerdere kapers op de kust. De kansen voor Latifi worden met de dag kleiner maar de Canadees vindt dat het steeds beter gaat.

Latifi is momenteel bezig aan zijn derde seizoen in de koningsklasse van de autosport. De Canadese coureur wordt dit seizoen veelvuldig verslagen door zijn nieuwe teamgenoot Alexander Albon. Latifi zelf is van mening dat Williams voor zijn toekomst moet kijken naar zijn resultaten sinds Silverstone. Op het Britse circuit ontving hij namelijk een gloednieuw chassis.

Comfortabeler

De Canadese coureur denkt dat zijn resultaten sindsdien in de lift zitten. Hij is dan ook van mening dat hij een toekomst verdient in de koningsklasse van de autosport. Tegenover Motorsport.com spreekt hij zich uit: "Ik voel mij veel comfortabeler en dat laat ik zien tijdens de weekenden. De prestaties zijn er als ik zo blijf doorgaan en als ik zoveel mogelijk uit de auto haal. Op basis daarvan verdien ik een stoeltje in de Formule 1."

Leveren

Latifi heeft het gevoel dat hij pas sinds de Britse Grand Prix echt progressie boekt. De Canadees vond zichzelf en zijn team daarvoor niet zo goed presteren: "Aan het begin van het jaar was dat niet het geval. Ik heb mijn sterke positie laten zien in de laatste paar races. Dat mag je niet ontkennen. Ik verbeterde mijn prestaties en legde mijzelf ook meer druk op, die zal er altijd wel zijn. Ik weet wat ik kan leveren, dat heb ik in de laatste paar races laten zien. De druk ligt bij mij. Maar dat is de sport toch?"

Als meneer Latifi zich na die jaren die hij nu al in de F1 zit en met zijn leeftijd en ervaring nu pas ziet groeien is hij redelijk (te) laat. Hij is goed voor de centen, maar niet goed genoeg voor de F1. Bye bye wat mij betreft
