Audi aankondiging lijkt kwestie van tijd

Het begint er steeds meer op te lijken dat de aankondiging van Audi er aan zit te komen. Het is al geruime tijd duidelijk dat de Duitse autofabrikant interesse heeft in de sport maar vandaag komt er vermoedelijk een bevestiging. Audi zal in 2026 de sport betreden, dan gaan er immers nieuwe motorreglementen in.

Op Twitter deelde Audi deze ochtend een wel heel opvallend bericht. Het merk wat onderdeel is van de Volkswagen Group slingerde een foto van een achterkant van een Formule 1-wagen de wereld in met een duidelijke tekst als begeleiding. Op het circuit van Spa-Francorchamps, waar men dit weekend de Belgische Grand Prix afwerkt, werd eveneens een Formule 1-wagen in Audi-kleuren gespot.

      Klik eens op het linkje. Het Vodafone rood van McLaren (fluorescerend rood/oranje als je in levende lijve naar die auto keek) is nog een bleke kleur met het Audi rood op dit showmodel.

    Nou, nou. Wat een bombarie. Ik kan me niet herinneren dat men zo veel hype probeerde te creëren rondom de terugkeer van het Mercedes-team (naast McLaren-Mercedes) in het Grand Prix racen. En Mercedes is toch écht de grotere Duitse autosportnaam.

      Het was wel degelijk heel groot nieuws. Maar de wetenschap dat Twitter toen nog niet bestond, geeft wellicht aan hoe lastig dit bericht jou toen heeft kunnen bereiken.

      Nonsens. men kondigde aan Brawn GP over te nemen en de band met McLaren geleidelijk te ontvlechten. Daar ging geen maandenlange buzz aan vooraf.

      Dat was omdat de beslissing ineens viel, dankzij Ron Dennis zelf. Maar dat neemt weg dat er een hele hype was rondom Mercedes. Want dat was er wel degelijk. Zowel in Duitsland, waar ik toen woonde, als in de rest van de wereld. Sterker nog; statistieken toonde dat de latere aankondiging van Schumacher bij Mercedes een enorme piek in internetverkeer teweeg bracht. Dus een hype was er zeker wel. Alleen, wat ik al zei, men was zich er minder bewust van omdat men niet de beschikking had over snelle informatie en social media zoals nu.

      Is voornamelijk omdat een VW merk volgens de media in verband met een ander team. Hopelijk komt die voorspelling uit anders staan er in Nederland redelijk wat media met hun bek vol tanden.

      Dat had meer te maken met de comeback van Schumacher (een balletje dat pas ging rollen na het vrij onverwachtige vertrek van Button) dan met de terugkeer van Mercedes als fabrieksteam.
