Albon trots op superkwalificatie: "Hele weekend al veel vertrouwen"

Alexander Albon was gisteren de verrassing van de kwalificatie in België. De Thaise coureur van het team van Williams presteerde al in de gehele kwalificatie zeer sterk. Hij bereikte tot ieders verrassing het derde gedeelte van de kwalificatie en deed het daar zeker niet slecht. Hij werd negende.

Door motorstraffen van Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc en Esteban Ocon mag Albon drie plekken naar voren op de startgrid. Het zorgt voor een zeer mooie uitgangspositie voor de Thaise Brit, punten behoren zeer zeker tot de mogelijkheden. Hij zal starten achter de Mercedessen van George Russell en Lewis Hamilton. Zijn teamgenoot Nicholas Latifi zal ook profiteren van de motorstraffen.

Albon zelf reageerde zeer tevreden na zijn zeer sterke resultaat in de kwalificatie. De Thai barst van het zelfvertrouwen en kende een zeer sterke zaterdag. Hij wordt geciteerd door Motorsportweek: "We hebben het gehele weekend al veel vertrouwen. We hoopten op Q2 dus Q3 is nogal onverwachts. Maar we zijn heel erg blij. Dit is een geweldig resultaat voor ons. De auto voelde sterk aan. We leren nog steeds heel erg veel van ons pakket en we hebben een paar veranderingen gemaakt in VT3, dat hielp onze auto in onze kwalificatie."
