FIA gaat experimenteren met DRS in kombocht Zandvoort

Aankomend weekend staat de Nederlandse Grand Prix weer op het programma. Veel mensen kijken reikhalzend uit naar het raceweekend op het uitverkochte circuit van Zandvoort. Max Verstappen verkeerd in topvorm en kan het publiek op de banken krijgen. Tijdens de eerste vrije training krijgen de fans in ieder geval een experiment te zien.

Voor de komst van de Formule 1 werd het iconische circuit van Zandvoort flink onder handen genomen. De meest in het oog springende verandering aan de baan vond plaats in de laatste bocht. De Arie Luyendyk-bocht werd namelijk verzien van een banking van 18 graden. Het was de bedoeling dat de coureurs daar vorig seizoen al hun DRS konden openen maar de FIA stak er een stokje voor vanwege veiligheidsredenen.

Racen bevorderen

Dit jaar is alles anders en kunnen de coureurs in ieder geval in de eerste vrije training hun vleugel openen in de kombocht. Single-Seater Technical Director van de FIA Nikolas Tombazis legde de situatie uit bij Viaplay: "Momenteel hebben we het idee om de DRS te openen voor de laatste bocht om het racen in Zandvoort te bevorderen. Maar we benaderen het met een open vizier. We zullen de teams om feedback vragen. We hebben ze er dingen over gevraagd in de simulaties maar dat gaan we ook doen na VT1."

Veiligheid

Het is namelijk nog niet duidelijk of de DRS ook in de rest van het weekend mag worden gebruikt in de Luyendyk-bocht. Tombazis geeft namelijk aan dat de feedback van de teams en mogelijke gevaren doorslaggevend zullen zijn voor de rest van het weekend: "Als wij het gevoel hebben dat het voor veiligheidsproblemen kan zorgen, dan ondernemen we actie en veranderen we het na VT1."

In een kombocht worden ze met de huidige downforcevloeren prima vastgeplakt in de bocht. Ik zie geen enkele reden om DRS dicht te houden.

Het zou mooi zijn als DRS gebruikt kan worden in de bocht, dat geeft wat meer kans op inhaalacties

  Ik heb een donkerbruin vermoeden dat de DRS pas na de bocht mag worden geopend tijdens de GP.
  
  Als er bij VT1 ook maar 1 wagen onrustig aanvoelt aan de achterzijde met de DRS open dan gaat de FIA er echt niet in mee om daar de DRS al open zetten voor de race.

Het "probleem" was de ingang van de pitsstraat kort na de kombocht.
Vooralsnog ziet alleen de FIA dit probleem omdat de rijders bij het uitkomen van die bocht aan de buitenkant zitten terwijl de ingang zich aan de binnenkant bevindt.

Ik vind het mooi.
Nog harder door de Arie Luyendyck bocht, nog harder over het rechte stuk, nog harder remmen voor de Tarzan bocht.
Meer DRS mogelijkheden en meer potentiële aktie!

De simulaties die de teams doen zouden toch al op voorhand uitsluitsel moeten geven of het veilig genoeg is? Ze hebben er n.b. nog een jaar langer de tijd voor gehad om het allemaal te berekenen.
Praktijk is niet altijd gelijk aan de werkelijkheid maar toch. Zou het wel gaaf vinden want uiteindelijk is het precies de bedoeling van die kombocht geweest.

Waar is de tijd gebleven dat tijdens de kwalificatie de rijders zelf bepalen waar zij DRS gebruikte.

Ik herinner me nog een Vettel met DRS open door 360 op Suzuka 👌 mooie tijden
