Sainz positief over kansen in Zandvoort: "Denk dat we kunnen vechten voor de zege"

Afgelopen weekend was Max Verstappen oppermachtig op het circuit van Spa-Francorchamps. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur moest vanaf de veertiende plaats starten maar won de race alsnog op een zeer dominante wijze. Concurrent Ferrari kwam veel snelheid tekort maar coureur Carlos Sainz maakt zich in Zandvoort geen zorgen.

Verstappen reed afgelopen weekend in België weg bij de concurrentie. Het gat met nummer twee Sergio Perez was zeer fors en de Ferrari's van Carlos Sainz en Charles Leclerc hadden een nog grotere achterstand. Leclerc moest eveneens een motorstraf incasseren maar werd uiteindelijk als zesde geklasseerd. Sainz werd derde maar had wel een grote achterstand op Verstappen.

Meevechten

Voor de Nederlandse Grand Prix van dit weekend maakt Sainz zich geen enkele zorgen. De Spaanse Ferrari-coureur denkt in Zandvoort weer mee te kunnen strijden om de zeges. Hij wordt geciteerd door Reuters: "Ik denk niet dat we zo slecht als het eruit ziet. Ik weet vrijwel zeker dat we dit weekend gewoon weer onze vorm terug hebben en dat we weer mee kunnen vechten voor de pole en de zege."

Oostenrijk

Sainz bekijkt de zaakjes zeer positief en denkt dat alles weer goed gaat komen. De Spanjaard wijst namelijk naar de recente resultaten van Ferrari: "Ze verhogen het niveau race voor race. Maar het is niet zo lang geleden dat wij ze in Oostenrijk versloegen met een vrij groot verschil. In Frankrijk haalde ik de Red Bull van Perez in terwijl ik startte op de 20ste plek. Dat was nog maar drie races geleden. Ik denk dus niet dat ze zich zo hebben verbeterd als ze in Spa deden geloven."

Ik hoop het voor Ferrari, maar het verschil was wel erg groot. Het zal vast dichter bij elkaar liggen, maar ik kan me bijna niet voorstellen dat Ferrari dit weekend de bovenliggende partij gaat zijn.

Maar ik laat me gewoon verrassen.

  De baan is een stuk korter, dus het verschil zal sowieso kleiner zijn op basis van de rondetijden. Daarnaast is het een heel andere baan qua bochten en (gebrek aan) langee rechte stukken. En is inhalen ook een stuk lastiger. Ik zou het geeneens een verrassing noemen als Ferrari hier gaat wegrijden bij de rest. Het is het hele seizoen al stuivertje wisselen.
