Sainz redelijk tevreden: "Het was zeker op de limiet"

Het was zeer close tussen de top drie in de kwalificatie op het circuit van Zandvoort. Max Verstappen greep de pole position met slechts een nipte voorsprong op de Ferrari's van Charles Leclerc en Carlos Sainz. Sainz noteerde de derde tijd en zal morgen vanaf de tweede startrij gaan starten naast Lewis Hamilton.

Net als teamgenoot Leclerc had Sainz goede hoop op de pole position. De Spaanse coureur was echter slechts 0,092 langzamer dan de snelste tijd van Verstappen. Het was een bittere pil voor de Italiaanse renstal maar het betekent niet dat Sainz weinig vertrouwen heeft in een slechte afloop. De Spanjaard blijft hoopvol.

Na afloop van de kwalificatie in de Noord-Hollandse duinen bleef Sainz zeer kalm. De Spanjaard verscheen als derde en laatste voor de microfoon van interviewer van dienst Giedo van der Garde: "Het was echt een clean rondje zonder fouten. Ik kwam gewoon die halve tiende tekort op Max en Charles. Het was zeker op de limiet vandaag. Je gebruikt hier elke meter van de baan om te pushen. De kwalificatie was niet makkelijk van Q1 naar Q2 en door naar Q3 maar uiteindelijk hebben we het toch goed gedaan."
