Horner ziet Mercedes als concurrent in Zandvoort

De verschillen in de kwalificatie waren gister zeer klein. De teams van Red Bull Racing en Ferrari ontlopen elkaar nauwelijks iets en de gaten waren dan ook klein. Het team van Mercedes moest meer tijd toegeven op de koplopers maar bij Red Bull blijft men wel letten op de Duitse concurrent.

Mercedes is dit weekend beduidend sneller dan afgelopen weekend in België. Bij Red Bull willen ze de titelrivaal van vorig seizoen dan ook niet vergeten. Het krachtsverschil met Ferrari is vanzelfsprekend momenteel het punt waar de meeste aandacht naar uit gaat maar men blijft ook kijken naar de prestaties van Mercedes.

Ferrari

Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner besprak na afloop van de kwalificatie de concurrentiestrijd met Viaplay. De Britse teambaas kijkt ten eerste naar de verschillen met grote concurrent Ferrari: "Ik denk dat we in een goede vorm verkeren. We kregen het voor elkaar om een setje banden te sparen voor de race, dat lukte hen niet. We moeten vanavond de cijfers maar eens bekijken. Het allerbelangrijkste is hier echter je gridpositie."

Mercedes

Alhoewel Mercedes veel verder achterstaat op Red Bull en Ferrari is de snelheid van de Duitse renstal wel een aandachtspunt voor Horner. De Duitse renstal had immers op meer gehoopt en teambaas Toto Wolff denkt zelfs dat Lewis Hamilton op pole had kunnen staan als er geen gele vlaggen waren geweest in Q3. Horner is duidelijk over zijn zorgen: "Ze hebben helemaal niets te verliezen."

Ik denk dat Toto en Lewis het Nederlandse volkslied zullen zingen als ze hier winnen en het zullen vieren als een 8e Wereldkampioenschap.

Het zou mooi zijn als Mercedes hier weet te winnen, want ze zien er al het hele weekend sterk uit. Toch denk ik dat dit uiteindelijk een vrij eenvoudige overwinning voor Verstappen wordt. Leuk voor het tribunevolk.
