Pirelli moet voor 2024 compleet nieuwe F1-banden ontwikkelen

Pirelli moet zijn Formule 1-banden voor het seizoen 2024 helemaal opnieuw gaan ontwikkelen, aldus Mario Isola van de Italiaanse leverancier. Hij zegt dat het komt omdat de sport geleidelijk het gebruik van bandenwarmers afbouwt, die vanaf 2024 volledig verboden zijn volgens de reglementen van de sport.

Isola vertelde in gesprek met Sky Duitsland: "Het is niet genoeg om gewoon verschillende verbindingen te ontwikkelen die beter opwarmen. Het probleem is dat de auto's nu zoveel sneller zijn en veel energie genereren in de banden. Je kunt een coureur niet vertellen dat hij een paar ronden langzamer moet rijden om de levensduur van de banden te verlengen. Deze jongens zijn aan het racen en moeten meteen doorzetten. Daarom moeten we de banden helemaal opnieuw ontwikkelen."

De Formule 1 vorig jaar met het afbouwen van bandenwarmers door maximale temperatuurlimieten in te stellen, die in 2023 nog meer zullen dalen.

Extra vrije training in Japan en Amerika

Maar Isola zegt dat Pirelli daadwerkelijke testtijd op het circuit nodig heeft voor de meest nauwkeurige bandenontwikkeling. Naar verwachting zal er daarom extra tijd worden uitgetrokken tijdens vrije trainingen, voor het testen van banden tijdens de Grand Prix van Japan en Amerika.

Isola: "We hebben deze testtijd nodig. Natuurlijk kunnen we een paar simulaties doen om te kijken hoe een constructie zich gedraagt onder bepaalde druk en hoe de temperatuurverdeling eruitziet. Maar het eindoordeel valt op de baan en daar hebben we huidige auto's voor nodig met de nieuwe banden, zonder het gebruik van de bandenwarmers."

  True Maximo, maar vroeger kon je toch iets langer en harder pushen...Ik vond eind jaren '90/begin '00 eigenlijk prima.
  En ik zou het tevens niet slecht vinden mocht er een 2de fabrikant aan boord komen.

  aan het begin van een stint bedoeld ie. Die rondjes worden nu juist gebruikt om te undercutten en dus juist sneller te gaan. Banden sparen in t algemeen is idd van alle tijden, die specifieke probleem wat hij noemt niet.

  @cavallino dan krijg je weer twee competities zoals destijds met Michelin en Bridgestone. Als je de verkeerde banden had kon je nog zo'n goede auto hebben maar dan had je geen kans. dat moet je niet terugwillen denk ik.

uhm we besparen het geld van bandenwarmers uit, maar ondertussen moeten er wel compleet nieuwe banden ontwikkeld en getest worden... makes sence

  Ik heb gehoord dat de 2024 banden voor een groot deel uit rubber zullen bestaan. Pure speculatie, maar toch een interessante ontwikkeling.

  Zoals ik al zei, puur speculatie.
  Ik heb het van de neef van de buurman van de zus van de koffiejuffrouw van Pirelli. En ik weet het, het is erg onwaarschijnlijk dat ze banden van rubber gaan maken. Maar met Pirelli weet je het maar nooit.
