Hamilton ontliep vroege uitvalbeurt in Zandvoort na vroege touché

Lewis Hamilton reed afgelopen weekend een zeer sterke race in Zandvoort. De Britse Mercedes-coureur vocht mee om de zege maar het niet maken van een pitstop tijdens de Safety Car deed hem de das om. Hamilton had echter al veel eerder in de problemen kunnen komen, in de eerste ronde raakte hij immers Carlos Sainz.

Hamilton maakte lichtjes contact met de Spaanse Ferrari-coureur in de openingsronde. De Britse zevenvoudig wereldkampioen meldde zich al snel op de boordradio om zijn team te vragen om de auto te checken. Het team bekeek daarop de data van de banden en de dat afkomstig van de sensoren om te checken of bijvoorbeeld de aerodynamica nog wel in orde was.

Schade

Men zag geen grote schade en Hamilton kon zijn weg vervolgen. Toch was er wel een klein beetje schade en dat had grote gevolgen kunnen hebben. In de debrief op YouTube geeft trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin uitleg: "De schade was niet zo groot als je kijkt naar de performance. Maar we hebben wel schade aan de wing endplate en dat zorgde voor wat problemen met de balans en de downforce."

Lekke band

Toen Hamilton zijn eerste pitstop maakte ontdekte het team echter nog een probleem. De ontdekte schade kon in theorie voor veel problemen zorgen: "We hadden ook een band met een snee. We wisten daar niets van tot dat we deze terugkregen aan het einde van de stint. Gelukkig zorgde dat niet voor een lekke band. Het kon voor een serieus probleem zorgen in de eerste ronde. Het zou lastig zijn geweest om Lewis dan naar binnen te halen."

Je kan zien dat de jaartjes gaan tellen bij Lewis. Een scherpe Lewis had Sainz precies op het achterwieltje geraakt ;)

  Je kan zien dat het een zeer goede rijder is/was maar dat het materiaal het meeste werk deed, dat is wat ik zie. zeer goede rijder hoor, maar die wordt zo ontzettend overschat al jaren.

  Die Verstappen is eigenlijk maar een hele middelmatige rijder. Hij heeft echt geluk dat hij zo'n dominante auto heeft. Lewis heeft dat geluk niet. Ik zou Verstappen wel eens in die Mercedes willen zien, dan bakt hij er niks van.

Hij start toch achteraan dus hij kan beter starten vanaf de pitstraat.
Kan de rest ook ontspannender de eerste ronde doorkomen.
