Russell verwacht geen tow: "Beloning is groot maar het is riskant"

Het team van Mercedes kende een redelijke vrijdag in Monza. Coureurs Lewis Hamilton en George Russell moesten redelijk wat tijd toegeven op de concurrentie en in VT2 klaagden beide coureurs over onder andere bottoming. Vandaag zullen in de kwalificatie ook weer moeten zoeken naar de juiste vorm, een tow is echter bijna uitgesloten.

Russell zal dit weekend waarschijnlijk de vooruitgeschoven pion van Mercedes zijn. Russells teamgenoot Lewis Hamilton ontvangt immers een forse gridstraf waardoor hij de race van morgen vanuit het achterveld zal moeten starten. De zevenvoudig wereldkampioen zal door Mercedes echter niet worden ingezet als een soort hulpmiddel voor Russell.

Riskant

Russell zelf verwacht niet dat men bij Mercedes zal kiezen voor een tow. Op het circuit van Monza kan slipstreamen immers een grote rol gaan spelen. Russell wordt geciteerd door Motorsport.com: "Als jet goed doet dan werkt het zeker. Alhoewel de beloning groot is, is het wel riskant. Het is niet iets wat we sowieso gaan doen. Tijdens de kwalificatie leren we veel over de auto en de banden. Daar hebben we dit seizoen duidelijk moeite mee. Ik denk dat we nu allebei een normale sessie gaan afwerken."

Vreemde dag

De getalenteerde Brit weet ook niet helemaal wat hij van de rest van het weekend moet verwachten na de twee vrije trainingen op de vrijdag. "Het was een vreemde dag. De eerste vrije training zag er vrij sterk uit maar daarna leek het erop dat Ferrari en Red Bull een stap vooruit hadden gezet. Het kan ook zijn dat wij een stapje terug hebben gedaan. In de tweede sessie zaten we achter een McLaren. Er ligt nog wel wat werk voor ons om dit te begrijpen."

Hij zou er nochtans eentje kunnen krijgen van Lewis die toch achteraan moet starten

  Precies! Perez gaat het ook doen bij Verstappen. Al denk ik dat ze in Q1 eerst gaan kijken of het goed gaat en wat het ze oplevert

Zou Lewis, George gaan helpen na Zandvoort? Of denkt Lewis nu stiekem van. Bekijk t maar. Russell wilde Hamilton namelijk ook niet helpen vorige race. Dit kan nog al cruciaal worden voor een pole van Russell vandaag.
