Sainz moet vrezen voor gridstraf na VT3-reprimande

Carlos Sainz start de Italiaanse Grand Prix vandaag vanuit het achterveld. De Spaanse Ferrari-coureur is één van de vele coureurs die vandaag een gridstraf incasseert. Sainz wisselt veel motorcomponenten en ontvangt daarom een fikse gridstraf. Maar de kans is aanwezig dat Sainz in de komende races weer tegen een straf gaat aanlopen.

Een mogelijke nieuwe gridstraf van Sainz wordt dan niet veroorzaakt door een motorwissel. Sainz moet namelijk op zijn tellen gaan passen na een incident in de derde vrije training van gisteren. Na een kwartier in VT3 ging Sainz de fout in. De Spanjaard remde af om zijn banden te laten afkoelen na een snelle ronde. Hij reed zeer langzaam en zag de aanstormende Valtteri Bottas over het hoofd.

Tik op de vingers

Bottas moest de eerste chicane afsnijden om een crash te voorkomen. De stewards grepen in en Sainz en Ferrari moesten zich na de sessie melden. De stewards besloten Sainz een reprimande te geven en Ferrari te waarschuwen. Een reprimande is in principe niet veel meer dan een tik op de vingers. Maar voor Sainz liggen de zaakjes iets anders, het is namelijk zijn vierde reprimande van het seizoen. Bij een vijfde reprimande volgt een straf.

Vijfde reprimande

Als Sainz in de komende races weer de fout in gaat en een reprimande ontvangt, dan zijn de rapen gaar. Bij een vijfde reprimande krijgt een coureur namelijk een gridstraf van tien plaatsen. Echter ontvangt de coureur alleen een gridstraf als vier van de reprimandes worden uitgedeeld voor een overtreding op de baan. Bij Sainz zou dit het geval zijn, hij moet dus opletten om zijn team niet te benadelen. Yuki Tsunoda ontving in Zandvoort zijn vijfde reprimande en kreeg dit weekend zijn gridstraf.
