Domenicali verwacht geen Duitse Grand Prix in nabije toekomst

De Formule 1-kalender telt aankomend seizoen een recordaantal van 24 Grands Prix. Op die kalender ontbreekt wederom de Grand Prix van Duitsland. De Grand Prix is al enkele jaren afwezig terwijl Duitsland toch wel een land is met een grote racehistorie. Stefano Domenicali beweert dat hij openstaat voor een Duitse comeback.

De Duitse Grand Prix werd in het verleden om en om verreden op de Hockenheimring en de Nürburgring. In de laatste jaren van het contract viel de race echter meerdere keren van de kalender. In 2019 werd er voor het laatst een Grand Prix georganiseerd onder de noemer 'Grand Prix van Duitsland'. De Nürburgring keerde tijdens het coronaseizoen 2020 nog wel even terug op de kalender maar wel onder een andere naam.

Suggesties

Veel fans balen van het wegvallen van de Duitse Grand Prix. Er wordt dan ook stilletjes gehoopt op een comeback van de race maar Formule 1-CEO Stefano Domenicali verwacht er weinig van. In gesprek met Der Spiegel is de Italiaan er nogal duidelijk over: "Als iemand pusht voor een Duitse Grand Prix, dan ben ik dat wel. Ik zie geen Duitse vertegenwoordigers die met ons gaan praten en constructieve suggesties doen."

Eerder gaven Duitse organisatoren en de mensen achter de Hockenheimring en de Nürburgring al aan dat de Grand Prix veel te duur is geworden. Domenicali heeft daar echter geen boodschap aan en wijst op de ligging van het land: "We weten dat de waarde van een Europese Grand Prix hoger ligt dan in andere plekken op de wereld. Als je een Picasso wilt kopen, dan moet je daar veel geld aan uitgeven."

  Ik vind het sowieso belachelijk, los van de fans. Duitsland is voor de Formule 1 altijd een van de belangrijkste landen geweest en met Mercedes als leverancier, Audi dat eraan komt etc., hoort daar gewoon een race te zijn. Al was het maar uit respect of fatsoen.
  
  Er zijn twee nieuwe races in de VS, maar wat betekent dat land nou voor de F1? Geen coureur, geen motorfabrikant, geen F1-cultuur. Alleen poen. Het begint steeds meer op een kermisattractie te lijken.

  Zeker. Gewoon doen, want de poen is goed. De F1 heeft alleen principiële bezwaren als dat marketingtechnisch goed uitkomt. Rusland moest daarom meteen van de kalender, maar racen in Saoedie Arabië bleek geen enkel probleem.

Goh, dan denk ik dat hij toch de slagkracht van de VAG groep vergeet. Met Audi (en potentieel nog altijd Porsche) dat de F1 zal enteren ga je weer meer aantrek vinden in Duitsland. Daarnaast hebben ze de circuits en infrastructuur en ook de gewichtige industrie.

Ik denk dat Stefano toch wel wat moet opletten me het sluipende gevaar arrogantie te vertonen.
