Sainz verwacht stevige concurrentie: "Over het algemeen was het een redelijke vrijdag"

Het team van Ferrari kende een wisselvallige vrijdag in Singapore. Charles Leclerc kampte met veel problemen terwijl Carlos Sainz veel beter voor de dag kwam dan verwacht. De Spanjaard sloot de avond onder het kunstlicht af met de snelste tijd van de dag. Hij verwacht op zaterdag en zondag veel meer concurrentie.

Sainz moest in de eerste twee vrije trainingen op vrijdag de degens stevig kruisen met de teams van Red Bull Racing en Mercedes. De Spaanse Ferrari-coureur moest in de eerste training nog zijn teamgenoot Charles Leclerc, de twee Ferrari's en de twee Red Bulls voor zich dulden. In de tweede training waren de rollen omgedraaid.

Rondjes nodig

Na afloop van de twee vrije trainingen was Sainz redelijk tevreden met zijn resultaten. De Spaanse coureur toonde zich na de tweede training positief bij Sky Sports: "Over het algemeen was het een redelijke vrijdag. Dit omdat we het voor elkaar kregen om het run plan te voltooien. We noteerden een aardig aantal rondjes en dat is precies wat je nodig hebt op een stratencircuit zoals hier. Je hebt dan gewoon rondjes nodig."

Sneller

Sainz en Ferrari verwachten dat het dit weekend een close duel gaat worden tussen henzelf, Mercedes en Red Bull. Sainz denkt dat de concurrentie vandaag minder voor de dag kwam: "Ik denk dat Red Bull en veel anderen met problemen het niet voor elkaar kregen om de best mogelijke tijden te rijden. Morgen hebben we allemaal meer marge om ons te verbeteren. Ik verwacht dat wij, de Red Bulls en de Mercedessen morgen sneller zullen zijn."
