Albon voelt zich weer fitter: "Laten we het bij oké houden"

In Singapore keerde Alexander Albon gisteren terug bij het team van Williams. De Britse Thai moest de Italiaanse Grand Prix missen vanwege een blindedarmontsteking. Het was nog eventjes de vraag of hij wel kon rijden in Singapore maar Albon lijkt weer helemaal fit en hij voelt zich ook weer goed.

In Monza werd Albon vervangen door de Nederlander Nyck De Vries. De Vries verbaasde vriend en vijand en reed een zeer sterke race. Hij kwam als negende over de streep en beloonde zichzelf met punten. Albon lag op dat moment in een ziekenhuisbed en het was nog maar de vraag of hij wel kon rijden in Singapore. Gisteren gaf hij daar zelf antwoord op door gewoon achter het stuur te kruipen.

Albon kende een redelijke vrijdag in de straten van Singapore. Hij sloot de tweede vrije training af op de zestiende plaats en sprak na afloop met de internationale media over zijn gezondheid: "Het ging oké, laten we het bij oké houden ook. Het is heet maar dat is normaal. We wisten dat het moeilijk zou gaan worden maar ik heb het gevoel dat we er beter mee konden omgaan dan verwacht. We hebben een goed aantal longruns gedaan. Het is een kwart van wat we zondag in de race doen. Maar ik heb morgen natuurlijk nog een dag rust."

Is voor de Vries ook beter. Met de Williams is er in Singapore niet veel te halen. Beter dat men zich aan Monza herinnert wat hem betreft.

Singapore is zowat het slechtste circuit om terug te komen. Het gaat hier ook niet om de fitheid van Albon die er zeker zal zijn.

Je mag je gewoon niet inbeelden dat zijn ingreep aan de blindedarm tijdens de race opeens voor een accuut probleem zorgt.

Toch wel een sterke persoonlijkheid. Een blindedarmontsteking en dan terugkomen op een van de meest intense circuits van de kalender.
