Russell ontvangt nieuwe Power Unit en start vanuit pitlane

George Russell kende gisteren een rampzalige kwalificatie in Singapore. De Britse Mercedes-coureur viel af in het tweede kwalificatiedeel en gaf na afloop aan dat hij hinder ondervond van enkele problemen aan zijn wagen. Mercedes heeft dan ook maatregelen genomen met het oog op de resterende races van het seizoen.

Mercedes heeft Russell namelijk voorzien van een vrijwel volledig nieuwe Power Unit. De Duitse renstal heeft de onderdelen vervangen onder de parc fermé-regels en dat betekent dat Russell de race vanuit de pitlane zal moeten starten. Volgens het document van de FIA heeft Russell de beschikking gekregen over een nieuwe ICE, turbocharger, MGU-H, MGU-K, energy store, control electronics en uitlaatsysteem.
