Latifi kan zich niet vinden in straf: "Normaal gesproken praten ze met de coureurs"

Nicholas Latifi reed afgelopen weekend in Singapore weer een race om snel te vergeten. De Canadees crashte in de openingsfase van de Grand Prix met Guanyu Zhou. Latifi werd als schuldige aangewezen en ontving een gridstraf voor de Grand Prix van Japan. Latifi zelf kan zich niet vinden in de straf.

Latifi is bezig met een zeer tegenvallend seizoen. De Canadese cultheld heeft nog geen enkel puntje gescoord en werd in Italië zelfs verslagen door eenmalige invaller Nyck De Vries. Latifi vertrekt na dit seizoen bij Williams en het lijkt erop dat zijn Formule 1-loopbaan ook ten einde gaat komen. In Singapore sloeg hij in ieder geval weer een modderfiguur.

Latifi tikte de Alfa Romeo van Zhou aan en beide coureurs vielen uit. De stewards deelden vervolgens een zware straf uit aan de Williams-coureur. In gesprek met Autosport spreekt hij zich afkeurend uit over de straf: "Ik baal natuurlijk dat ik niet alle rondjes heb voltooid. Ik heb de stewards kort gesproken omdat ze een beslissing hadden gemaakt zonder te spreken met de coureurs. Dat vond ik een beetje vreemd. Vooral omdat we allebei waren uitgevallen en er geen haast was. Normaal gesproken spreken ze met de coureurs."

Vooral de laatste race,maar daar hoor je nu niemand over.....

    Latifi s gewoon een ramp als rijder, je houd het niet tegen, maar zulke figuren zouden nooit in een F1 auto mogen plaats nemen.

    We willen gewoon de beste rijders zien die er zijn, en niet dit soort prutsers.

    Het is aftellen voordat deze veldopvulling vervangen wordt door een volwaardig coureur.

    Misschien dat zijn soortgelijke actie bij Mazepin onder gelijke omstandigheden ook mee heeft gespeeld.
    Voor dit soort coureurs is het rijden in dit soort omstandigheden teveel gevraagd.
    Mooi dat ie er volgend jaar niet meer bij is.

    Wat viel er te discussieren dan?
    Het enige dat Latifi als weerwoord zou kunnen geven is "Ik keek niet in mijn spiegels en hield lekker mijn lijn aan, waarbij ik dikke schijt had aan de auto die al naast me zat."

      Viel inderdaad weinig over te discussiëren over zijn actie.
      Wel aan de manier hoe verschillend de stewards omgaan met coureurs.
      Russelll mocht gewoon een beuk uitdelen daar had ik eigenlijk wel wat verwacht want dat was ook gewoon een lompe actie die goed fout had kunnen gaan maar die mocht gewoon door

      Daar was een straf inderdaad ook gepast geweest. Een drive-through of 5 seconden had inderdaad niet vreemd geweest.
