Gras in Suzuka op meerdere plekken vervangen door asfalt

Aankomend weekend keert de Japanse Grand Prix weer terug op de Formule 1-kalender. De race op het iconische circuit van Suzuka ontbrak de afgelopen twee jaar op de kalender vanwege het coronavirus. Nu is de Grand Prix weer terug maar krijgen de coureurs wel te maken met een lichtelijk aangepaste baan.

Uit de preview van de FIA blijkt namelijk dat het circuit in Japan is aangepast op drie punten. Niet alle pure racers zullen blij zijn met deze aanpassingen. Er zijn namelijk twee grasstroken verwijderd en vervangen door escaperoads van asfalt. Maar er is ook een grindbak vergroot, het is waarschijnlijk slechts een schrale troost.

Uit de preview blijkt dat het circuit in bocht 8 is voorzien van een nieuwe laag asfalt. Tevens is hier het kunstgras in de uitloopzone verwijderd en vervangen door asfalt. Ook is de kerb in de exit vervangen door dubbele kerbs. De grindbak in bocht tien is uitgebreid terwijl het kunstgras in bocht 16 is vervangen door asfalt. Tevens is de pitlane deels voorzien van een nieuwe laag asfalt.
