Tsunoda glundert na eerste dag thuisweekend: "Droom die uitkomt"

Het Japanse publiek kon vandaag juichen voor hun thuisrijder Yuki Tsunoda. De AlphaTauri-coureur reed voor het eerst in zijn Formule 1-loopbaan op het circuit van Suzuka en dat was een zeer bijzonder moment voor de Japanner. Na afloop van de trainingen is hij er dan ook heel erg eerlijk over.

Tsunoda debuteerde vorig seizoen in de Formule 1. Door het coronavirus reed de AlphaTauri-coureur echter niet in Japan, de Grand Prix stond door de pandemie immers niet op de kalender. Tsunoda moest dus zeer lang wachten op een thuisrace maar dit weekend worden zijn dromen dus werkelijkheid. Het zorgde voor een goed gevoel bij team en coureur.

Na afloop van de tweede vrije training meldde de thuisfavoriet zich voor de microfoons van de internationale media. Tsunoda sprak zich daar uit over zijn eerste dag van zijn thuisweekend: "Dit is zeker een droom die uitkomt. Het verlaten van de garage in VT1 en de eerste ronde waren super emotioneel. Vooral bocht 2 tijdens de outlap was bijzonder, ik stond daar zelf vier, vijf jaar geleden. Ik genoot ervan, niet dat ik druk ervoer maar ik genoot gewoon van de dag."
