Latifi kan wel lachen om trainingsblunder: "Ik keek op en zag een bocht!"

Nicholas Latifi zorgde eerder dit weekend voor een bijzonder moment. Niet alleen tijdens de race regende het, ook tijdens de vrije trainingen op vrijdag kwam het met bakken uit de hemel. Latifi ging daar op pijnlijke wijze de fout in door tijdens de training een bocht te vroeg te nemen.

De actie van Latifi zorgde voor de nodige hilariteit op de sociale media. De beelden zagen er inderdaad vrij knullig uit. Latifi reed namelijk de uitloopzone in, in plaats van dat hij de bocht aansneed. De Canadees gaf over de boordradio aan dat er iets anders aan de hand was en hij leek zijn pijnlijke foutje te negeren.

Enkele dagen later kon hij er wel om lachen. De Canadees had de beelden vanzelfsprekend ook gezien en hij stak dan ook de hand in eigen boezem. Bij The Race sprak hij zich uit: "Dit was volledig mijn fout. Ik kreeg een aantal radioberichten van mijn engineer. We hadden het idee om nog een rondje te rijden maar we besloten last minute naar binnen te gaan. Ik veranderde iets op mijn stuurtje, ik keek op en zag een bocht. Dat was ook nog eens de benodigde bocht naar rechts!"
