Sainz verklaart uitvalbeurt: "Ik probeerde uit de slipstream te komen om iets te zien"

Carlos Sainz was vandaag de eerste uitvaller in de verregende Japanse Grand Prix. De Spaanse Ferrari-coureur startte de race vanaf de derde plaats maar kon al na één rondje gaan douchen. Hij kreeg last van aquaplaning en crashte keihard van de baan. De race werd even later stilgelegd door de wedstrijdleiding.

Sainz toonde zich na afloop van de kwalificatie nog zeer strijdbaar. De Spanjaard kon zijn aanvalsplannen echter al snel opbergen na zijn vrij forse crash. Sainz klapte vol van de baan en de schade aan zijn Ferrari was groot. Hij had het geluk dat zijn collega's hem konden ontwijken. Pierre Gasly pikte wel een reclamebord op dat bij de crash op de baan was beland.

Aquaplaning

Na afloop van zijn enorm korte race verscheen de teleurgestelde Spanjaard voor de camera's van de internationale media. In gesprek met het Britse Sky Sports sprak hij zich uit: "Ik probeerde uit de slipstream van Sergio Perez te komen om iets te kunnen zien. Maar zodra ik dat deed was er meer water en kreeg ik last van aquaplaning. Daardoor raakte ik in een spin en had ik alle geluk van de wereld omdat niemand je kan zien."

Vrijwel alle coureurs begonnen de race op de inters. Maar Sainz denkt na afloop dat dit alles behalve de juiste keuze was, hij laat zich er na afloop dan ook redelijk duidelijk over uit voor de camera's: "Wanneer je kiest voor een rollende start met de extreme wets, dan gaat iedereen direct roepen dat de Formule 1 niet gaat racen zodra er regen valt. Maar als je de situatie hier ziet, dan zag je dat er amper zicht was vanuit de auto's."

Ik snap ook niet dat er geen ruitenwissers op die helm zit. Of een kunstmatige hand op de HALO die alle regendruppels wegwuift. Bizar dat die techniek er anno 2022 nog steeds niet is. Of anders gewoon allemaal verplicht een duikbril op onder de helm, dan is het probleem ook opgelost. Je hebt zat van die kleine duikbrilletjes bij de action dus dat mag geen probleem zijn lijkt me.

Oh ennuh, mooi dat Schwantz weer terug is maar een kleine verklaring naar de wanhopig achtergebleven forummers zou niet misstaan. Er waren er hier die dachten dat je al was overgegaan!

Carlos had alle geluk van de wereld dat er niemand bij hem naar binnen vloog na zijn spin, anders had hij nu S-ai-ai-ai-nz geheten.

Missie volbracht.

Sorry beetje flauw, maar wat een gezwets van Sainz. Hij reed precies in het spoor van de wagens voor hem. Dat hij spint kwam omdat hij te hard op het gas ging. Iedereen achter Sainz had nog slechter zicht en die spinden allemaal niet op dat punt.

  Leek mij aquaplaning, maar ben niet 100% zeker omdat ik wel een verhoging in toerental hoorde, maar minimaal. Gelukkig waren de gaten tussen de rijders al wat groter, want anders zou de kans groot zijn geweest dat hij anderen had gecollecteerd. Hij ging van rechts naar links over de baan.
  
  Maar wat zit er een irritante fluittoon in de motor van Ferrari sinds de zomer update. Vreselijk. Wel een goede manier om mij en anderen van de onboard vandaan te houden.
