AlphaTauri grijpt verrassende zege bij pitstops in Japan

Al vroeg na de herstart van de Japanse Grand Prix speelden de pitstops een belangrijke rol in het verloop van de race. Veel coureurs besloten al na een aantal rondjes naar binnen te duiken om de full wets in te wisselen voor de inters. Hierdoor speelden de pitstops een sleutelrol bij de beslissing van de race.

Opvallend genoeg werd de snelste pitstop niet verricht door Red Bull Racing of Mercedes. Het team van AlphaTauri won de prijs voor de snelste pitstop in Suzuka. De Italiaanse pitcrew wisselde de banden van Pierre Gasly binnen 2,45 seconden. Aston Martin werd tweede met de pitstop van Lance Stroll. AlphaTauri veroverde ook de derde plaats met een pitstop van 2,52 seconden bij Yuki Tsunoda.
