Ralf Schumacher begrijpt beide kanten in tractor-zaak Gasly

Na afloop van de Japanse Grand Prix ging het afgelopen weekend veelvuldig over een opvallend incident onder de rode vlag. Pierre Gasly reed immers nog op de baan en kwam tot zijn schrik een bergingsvoertuig tegen. Gasly was woedend maar ontving wel een tijdstraf omdat hij te hard reed tijdens een code rood. Ralf Schumacher begrijpt beide kanten van het verhaal.

Gasly reed tijdens de rode vlag met een snelheid van ongeveer 250 kilometer per uur. De AlphaTauri-coureur kon net op tijd een tractor ontwijken, deze was de baan opgekomen om de Ferrari van Carlos Sainz op te ruimen. Door de spray was het zicht zeer slecht en zag Gasly de tractor pas op het allerlaatste moment. De gedachten gingen direct terug naar het fatale ongeval van Jules Bianchi in 2014.

Oud-coureur en huidig analist Ralf Schumacher begrijpt de woede van Gasly wel. Maar de Duitse ex-coureur ziet wel dat de zaakjes soms ook iets anders liggen. In zijn column voor de Duitse tak van Sky Sports spreekt hij zich uit: "Het onderwerp omtrent Gasly was enorm emotioneel. Ik begrijp de kritiek van de coureurs. Ze hebben aangegeven dat ze geen tractor op de baan willen zien als er nog auto's rondrijden. Maar dat zorgt er ook niet voor dat Gasly zomaar met 250 kilometer per uur kan rondrijden. Dat is allesbehalve slim. Ik denk dat allebei de kanten moeten nadenken."

Ik begrijp ook beide kanten. Voor de tractor chauffeur was het ook niet leuk. De safety car reedt veel te hard om hem bij te kunnen houden. Dat werkt demotiverend.

Ik begrijp ook beide kanten. Voor de tractor chauffeur was het ook niet leuk. De safety car reedt veel te hard om hem bij te kunnen houden. Dat werkt demotiverend.

  Ik ook. Met een tractor ben je immers heilig in dit land. Wegblokkades, dreiging en intimidatie, niet voldoen aan kentekenplicht: het is allemaal geen probleem. De politie doet er geen fuck tegen. Een paar pubers die zich zorgen maken om het klimaat (ook irritant, maar dat terzijde) worden daarentegen hardhandig gearresteerd.

  Er werken heel veel mensen hard Maxfanaat. De boeren komen met bovengemiddeld veel weg met hun protesten, das gewoon omdat men het toepassen van intimidatie niet schuwt. Bij mij is daardoor flink wat respect verdwenen voor deze lieden.
