Russell baalt van mislukte strategie: "Ik reed vlak achter Lewis"

George Russell finishte dit seizoen alleen maar in de top vijf. In de afgelopen twee races heeft hij die reeks echter beëindigd. In Singapore pakte hij geen punten na een lekke band en afgelopen weekend in Japan werd hij slechts achtste. De Brit wil de strategie met zijn team gaan doornemen.

Russell startte de Grand Prix op het circuit van Suzuka ook vanaf de achtste plaats. De Mercedes-coureur kende vervolgens een aardige race maar Mercedes besloot zijn strategie om te gooien. In de kletsnatte omstandigheden werd hij direct na teamgenoot Lewis Hamilton naar binnen gehaald. Dit zorgde ervoor dat Russell eventjes moest wachten, hiermee verloor hij kostbare seconden.

Na afloop van de race was de Britse coureur hier nogal duidelijk over. Russell was er alles behalve blij mee en hij wil in gesprek gaan met zijn team. Bij de media-afdeling van de Formule 1 spreekt hij zich uit: "We moeten gaan bekijken wat er precies gebeurde. Ik reed vlak achter Lewis en we besloten voor de double stack te gaan. Ik verloor daardoor gewoon alle posities. Ik kan er nu niet meer over zeggen. Het was eigenlijk gewoon een enorm frustrerende middag."

nog niet bijna, Lewis is gewoon de veel betere en completere coureur ondanks dat Russell voor hem staat in het kampioenschap! maar dat is mijn gedachte, daar hoef je het niet mee eens te zijn!

    Had een ronde door gereden, dan was het zeker weten niks geworden. Vraag maar aan Alonso.

      Of had Hammie een rondje door laten rijden, die zei in dezelfde ronde nog " Full wets it is" die was nog helemaal happy de peppie met bandjes.

    Het enige wat Russell had kunnen doen om een betere uitgangspositie te verkrijgen was voor Lewis rijden. En dat is hem niet gelukt afgelopen weekend. Is toch echt zijn eigen schuld dan.

    Ik was wel fan van de coureur Russell de afgelopen jaren. Snel, duidelijk en geen gezeur. Dat lijkt nu wel anders. Hij gedraagt zich soms alsof hij de nummer 1 status in het team verdient, maar naar mijn perceptie zijn Lewis en George erg aan elkaar gewaagd.

      nog niet bijna, Lewis is gewoon de veel betere en completere coureur ondanks dat Russell voor hem staat in het kampioenschap! maar dat is mijn gedachte, daar hoef je het niet mee eens te zijn!

      @Beerkuh helemaal mee eens, maar ik denk dat t tevens aantoont dat Hamilton niet zijn beste spel speelt dit jaar.

      Heeft nog 4 races om Russells vertrouwen te knakken ipv hem vertrouwen te geven zoals destijds bij Button.

      Hamilton rijdt een wisselvallig jaar, heeft tegelijkertijd wat meer opgeofferd qua experimenteren met de bolide en heeft (zeker aan het begin van het jaar) meer pech gehad met ongelukkige (V)SC's. De stand is dus enigszins geflatteerd, tegelijkertijd is het ook een dik compliment in de richting van Russell.
      Wel zie je bij Hamilton duidelijk dat hij het team opnieuw wil opbouwen en daar ook veel tijd en energie insteekt.

      V.w.b. zondag kan ik kort zijn. Het was voor Russell wellicht wat vervelend, maar welkom in de wereld van Hamilton in bijvoorbeeld de race in Miami, of Zandvoort etc. Soms pakt een (V)SC gewoon net goed of net verkeerd uit voor je. Russell heeft er meerdere keren optimaal van geprofiteerd, nu kreeg hij een keer de deksel op zijn neus. Jammer maar helaas...

      Tuurlijk niet, maar is een mooi praatje voor de bühne.

      Russell was gewoon de betere in het begin en Hamilton zicht alleen maar naar excuses. Sun-tzu

      Hij heeft iets in het tempo van zijn zinnen waar ik sterk door word afgeleid. De lollypops hebben dat geweldig geimiteerd trouwens. Hij vind zichzelf geweldig. Hij heeft altijd gelijk. En het is altijd de schuld van die ander.

      Maar ja. Ruim goed genoeg voor een top team. Hij mag blijven. Maar ik ben geen fan van hem.

      @Tonrossi, vandaar de zichtbaar compleet andere set-ups op de bolides bij Russell en Hamilton aan het begin van het jaar... Heeft natuuuurlijk niets met het experimenteren te maken om het bruinvissen onder controle te proberen te krijgen. Nee, men deed dat voor de lol, want zeg eerlijk, je moet toch wat al je niet vooraan meedoet. Oh wacht...

      Wellicht even je anti-Hamilton bril afzetten, reëel naar de zaak kijken en dan valt er niet te ontkennen dat dit ook een onderdeel is geweest van het geheel. In feite gewoon zoals ik al beschreef... een onderdeel van, niets meer en niets minder. Geen excuses zoeken, want waarom zou ik dan schrijven dat de beste man een wisselvallig jaar rijdt en dus ook deels hand in eigen boezem kan steken?

    Dat Lewis beter is wist ik al, maar ik vind die Russell maar een naar mannetje om te zien. Heb er niks mee en zal ik ook niet krijgen. Heb ik ook bij Stroll en Schumacher.
