COTA vernoemt bocht naar racelegende Mario Andretti

Aankomend weekend staat de Amerikaanse Grand Prix op het programma op het Circuit of the Americas in Austin. Voorafgaand de Grand Prix zet de organisatie racelegende Mario Andretti in het zonnetje. De Amerikaan wordt geëerd met een eigen bocht op het circuit in de Amerikaanse staat Texas.

Het Circuit of the Americas (COTA) viert dit weekend een feestje, ze bestaan namelijk tien jaar. De race zal dan ook aanvoelen als een soort feestje, zoals gewoonlijk zal er weer een grote hoeveelheid artiesten van wereldfaam optreden. De organisatie heeft echter ook oog voor de iconen van de autosport en Andretti zal flink in het zonnetje worden gezet.

Enkelvoudig wereldkampioen Mario Andretti is in de Verenigde Staten één van de grootste racenamen ooit. Andretti boekte niet alleen successen in de Formule 1, hij kwam ook in actie in de NASCAR, de Indycar en de 24 uur van Le Mans. Op de donderdag voorafgaand het Grand Prix-weekend zal er een ceremonie plaatsvinden waarbij men de 20ste bocht naar Andretti zal vernoemen. De 82-jarige Amerikaan zal naar verwachting aanwezig zijn bij de ceremonie.

    Ik ga me niet meer bezighouden met de zogenaamde budget cap, want iedereen heeft er iets over te vinden terwijl er eigenlijk helemaal niks duidelijk is.

      Zal me niets verbazen dat dit WEL een beetje politiek is.
      Want waarom is er maar 1 bocht met een naam, en toevallig van die van Andretti, die onder die naam toevallig een team in F1 willen krijgen?

      En waarom zijn er gelijk geen andere bochten vernaamd naar Phil Hill, Dan Gurney etc?

      COTA en Andretti proberen waarschijnlijk gewoon een beetje extra, om de Andretti naam opnieuw extra te promoten. Gewoon politiek..
