NASCAR-rijder geschorst door wangedrag op en naast de baan

William Darrell 'Bubba' Wallace is geschorst voor de volgende race in de NASCAR Cup Series. De 29-jarige rijder kon zijn woede niet in bedwang houden nadat hij in de muur werd gedrukt door Kyle Larson op de kombaan van Las Vegas en nam wraak op zijn collega op en naast de baan.

Eerst ramde de Amerikaan Larson van de baan en ging daarna met hem op de vuist. Wallace is de eerste sinds 2015 die ban heeft gekregen voor een wedstrijd.

In een interview op SiriusXM NASCAR Radio lichtte Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR's chief operating officer, de schorsing van Wallace toe. "Het is zeer zeldzaam of nooit geweest dat we coureurs schorsen", zei hij. "We nemen die actie niet lichtvaardig."

23XI Racing, de renstal van Wallace, accepteerde de straf. "Het team is eens met NASCAR wat betreft de schorsing voor één race die aan Bubba is verleend en we begrijpen dat de serie een duidelijk standpunt moet innemen over de incidenten die plaatsvonden op de Las Vegas Motor Speedway," zei O'Donnell.

Op maandagavond verontschuldigde Wallace zich op zijn Twitter-account. "Mijn gedrag komt niet overeen met de kernwaarden die worden gedeeld door 23XI Racing en onze partners, die een cruciale rol hebben gespeeld in mijn ongelooflijke reis naar de top van deze geweldige sport", schreef hij.

"Ik wil mijn excuses aanbieden aan NASCAR en de fans, samen met Christopher Bell, Joe Gibbs Racing en Toyota omdat ze hen in de play-offs in een situatie hebben gebracht die ze niet verdienen."

"Ik concurreer met enorme passie, en met passie komt soms frustratie. Bij het nadenken had ik onze partners en kernteamwaarden beter moeten vertegenwoordigen dan ik deed."

  zolang ze maar geen vuurwapens trekken, dan is er niks aan de hand, zoals je zegt, na een goeie matpartij met bebloede hoofden gezellig een budweisertje pakken, en daarmee klaar

  Bubba had het recht om even door t lint te gaan. Race verpest doordat iemand geen ruimte laat en al een hele bocht naast m reed... Simpel duwtje... daar schrikt iemand in Nascar echt niet van.
  
  (Misschien het volgas tegen Larson zijn rechterkant beuken van Bubba was niet zo handig)
  
  Het publiek op de tribune genoot... "de fans" die een clipje hebben gezien van 2 minuten klagen zich suf.

  In de jaren 90 gebeurde het al eens dat je na een ('gemoedelijk') robbertje vechten, samen een biertje stond te drinken ... Die tijden zijn wel voorbij heren!! Ben zelf ooit beschoten geweest na een woordwisseling. Als de kogels rond je oren fluiten, trek je vanzelf die DRS open!! ..
