Audi denkt nog niet aan coureurs: "Er is nog 3,5 jaar te gaan"

Audi betreedt de Formule 1 in 2026. De Duitse autofabrikant zal de sport gaan betreden als motorleverancier en men verwacht later dit jaar hun partnerteam bekend te maken. Audi heeft nog geen coureurs op het oog maar vanzelfsprekend hebben ze wel een wensenlijstje voor hun intrede in 2026.

In 2026 gaan er nieuwe motorreglementen gelden in de Formule 1. Audi toonde al snel hun interesse in de nieuwe motorregels en voorafgaand de Belgische Grand Prix van dit seizoen kondigde men het Formule 1-project aan. Het is de verwachting dat Audi een meerderheidsaandeel gaat nemen in het team van Sauber. Audi zwijgt echter over die mogelijke deal.

Talentenprogramma

Ook moet men nog opzoek naar een tweetal coureurs voor 2026. Audi gaat vanzelfsprekend een programma opzetten voor de ontwikkeling van het project. Audi-kopstuk Adam Baker legde het uit tegenover de internationale media: "Er is veel interesse maar er is ook nog drieënhalf jaar te gaan en er kan nog veel gebeuren op de coureursmarkt. We gaan een programma opzetten, een simulator en we gaan werken met coureurs voor de ontwikkeling. Dat kan leiden tot een talentenprogramma maar daar hebben we het later wel over."

Ervaring

Baker denkt dat het in 2026 wel van belang is om een ervaren coureur in de auto te zetten. Audi debuteert dan immers in de koningsklasse van de autosport en iemand met ervaring kan het team vooruit helpen. Baker: "De coureurs werken vandaag de dag steeds meer en meer in de simulator. Het zou dan ook zeker interessant zijn om een ervaren coureur in de auto te zetten, natuurlijk overwegen we dat."
