Gasly blij met uitkomst FIA-rapport: "We riskeren ons leven"

Pierre Gasly liet duidelijk van zich horen nadat op de baan op de hoge snelheid langs een hijskraan reed op een nat Suzuka. De Fransman was bezig om aan te sluiten achter de Safety Car toen de AlphaTauri-coureur met grote schrik een bergingsvoertuig zag bewegen aan de zijkant de baan.

Over de boordradio en tijdens de onderbreking door een rode vlag was Gasly laaiend over de gang van zaken en verwees naar het incident met Jules Bianchi in 2014, op hetzelfde circuit. Bianchi overleed aan de gevolgen door een keiharde botsing met een voertuig.

Op hoge poten ging Gasly naar de wedstrijdleiding die hem een onbevredigend antwoord gaf. “Uiteindelijk riskeren we ons leven", zei Gasly tegen Autosport.com. Nogmaals, we willen gewoon zo veilig mogelijk zijn. Er zullen altijd risico's zijn bij het rijden met deze auto's in deze omstandigheden en met zulke snelheden, maar zolang we het risico kunnen minimaliseren..."

Naast Gasly waren nog meer criticasters binnen de paddock en de FIA tot actie over te gaan. Vrijdag publiceerde het autosportgaan hervormingen om de gebeurtenissen zoals in Suzuka beter te voorkomen. Gasly reageerde positief op het rapport vanuit de FIA, maar reageerde niet direct op het feit dat hij te hard reed onder dubbel geel.

"Ik was het meest geïnteresseerd in wat ze voor de toekomst zullen invoeren", zei Gasly. "En het belangrijkste is gewoon vooruitgang, dat we ervoor zorgen dat iedereen veilig is, of het nu in de F1 is of in de lagere categorieën."

"Ik ben blij om te zien dat ze heel snel aan deze kwestie hebben gewerkt en al in de race met oplossingen kwamen direct nadat dat gebeurde. Ik ben blij met de oplossingen die ze invoeren."

Gasly wilde de kritiek op zijn snelheid in het rapport niet aanvechten: “Ik wil aan die kant geen issue van maken. Zoals ik al zei, ik volgde mijn delta. En ik werd bestraft voor te hard rijden op het rechte stuk, dat was na het incident. En daar gaat het in dit rapport niet eens om."

Je kiest ervoor om deze sport te beoefenen omdat je er hoopt rijk en beroemd te worden.

Het is een keuze en je hoeft het niet te doen.

Dus hou die smoesjes alsjeblieft bij je want je krijgt er teveel voor betaald voor het risico wat je loopt.

  Blijkbaar heeft de leiding de teams niet geïnformeerd dat er een kraan de weg op reed.
  Gasly wist het niet. Gelukkig reed hij rustig daar omdat de Ferrari er stond. Ik ben absoluut geen fan van Gasly, maar de fia zat flink fout.
  Het is aan de fia een onvergetelijke situatie zo veilig mogelijk te maken. De zoveelste blunder dit seizoen van de fia. Ze maakten de situatie onveiliger namelijk.
  Begrijp je opmerking dus niet Tonrossi.

  Persoonlijk vind ik dat onzin. Wat op Suzuka gebeurde in 2014 moet op alle circuits voorkomen worden. Alsof het op imola of silverstone of Zandvoort wel zou mogen.
  Uiteraard heb je gelijk dat er hier extra sentiment door ontstaat.

  Dat is ook wat ik zeg.... Het zou nooit en te nimmer ergens mogen voorkomen, maar juist net dat het wederom op Suzuka gebeurde.....

Delta tijd m'n derriere Pierre. Je was gewoon volle Gasly aan het stampen onder dubbel geel, waar je geacht wordt ten aller tijde je auto direct tot stilstand te kunnen brengen, en dat was je gewoon never nooit gelukt onder die omstandigheden.

Ik irriteer me geweldig aan het toontje dat hij aanslaat de laatste weken, nog los van het feit of hij ergens gelijk in heeft of niet. Pure arrogantie. Schreeuwen in Singapore, in Japan en nu weer in Amerika. Die hangen de Nederlandse vlag uit eind November bij AT.
