Grand Prix van Las Vegas wordt duurste Formule 1-race van 2023

Vanaf volgend seizoen zal er geracet worden in de gokhoofdstad van de wereld, Las Vegas. De stad is een eindbestemming voor feestvierders, casinoliefhebbers en vanaf volgend seizoen ook F1-toeschouwers. Afgelopen zaterdag organiseerde Formule 1 een welkomstfeestje voor de kleurrijke en bruisende stad in de zanderige staat Nevada. Volgens F1’s topman Stefano Domenicali zal de koningsklasse van de motorsport voor een flink spektakel zorgen, maar dat als gevolg hiervan een flinke prijs aan de tickets zal worden gehangen om de race te in het echt te kunnen meemaken.

Afgelopen zaterdag mochten Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton en George Russell en Red Bull’s Sergio Peréz aanwezig zijn om de fans warm te maken voor wat er volgend jaar komen gaat. Op de “strip”, de drukste straat van Las Vegas, deden bovengenoemde coureurs een showronde voor een groot publiek. Het is zichtbaar dat de populariteit van de Formule 1 in de Verenigde Staten in grote getalen toeneemt en de FOM (Formule One Management) hoopt hier dan ook flink gebruik van te maken door een derde race in de Verenigde Staten aan de F1-kalender toe te voegen.

FOM-baas Stefano Domenicali is vertrouwend in hoeverre er een show gemaakt zal worden, maar dat het gevolg hiervan is dat de prijzen van tickets hoog zullen zijn. “We gaan het grootste spektakel in de wereld als de Formule 1 zijnde neerzetten. Dat moet qua prijsposities erkent worden, want dit is Las Vegas en waar het voor staat”, vertelt Domenicali in gesprek met AP. Dat de uitstraling van Las Vegas als F1-host pijn zal doen in de portemonnee van de F1-fan is duidelijk. Toch geeft Domenicali aan dat er ook ‘mogelijkheden zullen zijn voor degenen die minder willen of kunnen spenderen’.

“We willen laten zien wat we als promoter kunnen”, zegt Liberty Media’s CEO Greg Maffei. We willen gebruik maken van de groeiende bekendheid van de Formule 1 in de Verenigde staten. De vraag is enorm. Voor ons zal dit de grootste race zijn op het gebied van inkomsten, maar ook op het gebied van uitgaven. Dat hoort bij Las Vegas en is passend voor een race in een showhoofdstad”, sluit Maffei af.

  Race is ook in de avond bij ons, dus een wekker zal je niet hoeven zetten. Tenzij je in Azië woont.

  Ik zeg tegen die verpleegsters dat het voor 12 uur pijn doet......en ze geloven me nog ook haha.
  
  En na 12 uur komt de wisseling van de wacht en komen de wat aantrekkelijkere verpleging de boel overnemen...vind ik fijner.

  Precies wat ik al dacht @Tifosi. In het bericht staat:
  "Toch geeft Domenicali aan dat er ook ‘mogelijkheden zullen zijn voor degenen die minder willen of kunnen spenderen’."
  Maar voorbeelden geeft Domenicali - de omhooggevallen parasiet van de Formule 1 - niet. Uit jouw post kun je wel opmaken waarom hij dat niet doet...
  
  Het wordt in Vegas een F1-show voor de 'happy rich view' van de USA en van het sportieve gedeelte (de race) kunnen we m.i. beter niets verwachten, misschien valt het dan nog iets mee...

Nou ben ik nog nooit in Vegas geweest. Maar ik kan mij wel voorstellen dat er een hoop casino's aan die strip liggen. Tja als hun klanten eerst $550,- moet betalen om te komen gokken. Zal het wel wat minder druk worden en is compensatie op zijn plaats! Dus kan ik mij voorstellen dat het de duurste race ooit wordt! :-))))

  Bij mij gaat het om echt racen, en niet zo]n achterlijke show dat het gaat worden, dat het racen er eigenlijk niet eens meer toe doet.
  
  De F1 mag de VS van mij in zijn geheel over slaan, de manier hoe de Amerikanen de sport brengen, spreekt mijn 0,00 aan.
  
  En zeker in Las Vegas zal je al die sterren die weer even in beeld moeten komen zien, nee ik kots al bij het idee ervan, opzouten .
