Vettel verwacht afkickverschijnselen: "Denk dat ik ermee om kan gaan"

Sebastian Vettel is bezig aan zijn laatste weken in de Formule 1. De Duitse viervoudig wereldkampioen hangt na de seizoensfinale in Abu Dhabi zijn helm aan de wilgen. Vettel kijkt niet bepaald uit naar het einde van zijn succesvolle loopbaan, hij verwacht dat het zal voelen als een soort afkickkliniek.

Vettel kondigde halverwege het huidige seizoen zijn afscheid uit doormiddel van een video op zijn gloednieuwe sociale media-kanalen. Vettel verlengd zijn contract bij Aston Martin niet en wordt volgend seizoen opgevolgd door de eveneens ervaren Fernando Alonso. Inmiddels is Vettel dan ook bezig met een soort afscheidstournee, op alle circuits wordt hij toegejuicht.

Afkicken

Vettel zelf geeft aan dat het racen in de afgelopen zestien jaar zijn doel in het leven was. Vettel debuteerde in 2007 in de sport en werd wereldkampioen in 2010, 2011, 2012 en 2012. Nu gaat hij andere uitdagingen zoeken en in gesprek met Der Spiegel laat hij weten dat hij het best lastig vindt: "Ik verwacht stiekem van mijzelf dat ik kan omgaan met een leven zonder de Formule 1. Ik verwacht dat het gaat voelen alsof ik moet gaan afkicken."

Vettel ziet wel een soort toekomstperspectief voor zich. Hij wil de tactiek van de Duitse presentator Stefan Raab gebruiken. Vettel: "Hij was alom vertegenwoordigd in het Duitse televisielandschap, hij liet weten dat hij ermee ging stoppen en toen was hij ineens stil. Je moet hem vragen of hij gelukkig is. Ik denk dat het bewonderenswaardig is. Hij liet zien dat hij er niet afhankelijk van is, dat is een groot gevaar van onze sport."

  Gelukkig kan tante Agaath in de kelder van het buurthuis nog kantklostoernooitjes voor junior-kantklossers organiseren @Snork, want wat ze vroeger in de kelder deed kan ze nu toch allang niet meer. En DJ Ome Joop ook niet...
