Drugovich maakt F1-debuut bij eerste vrije training Abu Dhabi

Op het historische Silverstone heeft Felipe Drugovich zijn eerste kilometers in een Formule 1-auto ervaren. In Lance Stroll’s AMR21-bolide reed de coureur met de Braziliaanse nationaliteit meer dan driehonderd kilometer aan ronden, wat betekent dat Drugovich aan alle Superlicentievoorwaarden voldoet en zijn F1-debuut zal maken tijdens de eerste vrije training bij de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi.

“Mijn eerste ervaring in een Formule 1-auto was geweldig. Ik heb ontzettend veel geleerd en we hebben al het nodige werk geleverd om klaar te zijn voor Abu Dhabi”, vertelt Drugovich op de website van Aston Martin. De kersverse F2-kampioen zegt zeer onder de indruk te zijn van de karakteristieken van de Formule 1-wagen. “De auto was indrukwekkend. De soepelheid van het schakelen van de versnellingen en het veel grip hebben in de bochten betekent dat je zoveel snelheid in bochten mee kunt nemen. Ik heb ervan genoten, mijn dank voor iedereen die dit mogelijk heeft gemaakt.”

In september maakte Aston Martin bekend dat het Drugovich als allereerste coureur aan haar rijdersontwikkelingsprogramma zou gaan toevoegen, een programma dat het uiteindelijke doel heeft om voor alle deelnemers een pad te banen richting de koningsklasse van de motorsport. Aston Martin-teambaas Mike Krack was ronduit tevreden met het harde werken van Drugovich op Silverstone: “Felipe heeft het geweldig gedaan deze testsessie. Hij kon zich snel aan de auto aanpassen en was na een handvol ronden al op snelheid. Hij is een intelligente rijder, werkte goed samen met ons team van ingenieurs en maakte indruk op ons met zijn professionele houding, prestatie en feedback”, sluit Krack af.

NEWS: @FelipeDrugovich got his first taste of #F1 power last week, completing over 300km in the AMR21 at @SilverstoneUK.

Felipe has now completed the requirements to be granted a Super Licence and will drive the AMR22 in FP1 at the #AbuDhabiGP.
