Domenicali spreekt twijfel uit over doorgaan Chinese Grand Prix in 2023

Ondanks dat de Chinese Grand Prix voor 2023 weer op de kalender staat, is het nog hoogstens onzeker of de Grand Prix wel zal worden verreden. De coronasituatie in China is immers nogal streng en daardoor komt de Grand Prix in gevaar. Ook Stefano Domenicali spreekt nu zijn twijfel uit.

De Chinese Grand Prix werd in 2019 voor het laatst verreden. De Grand Prix op het circuit nabij de metropool Shanghai, door de coronapandemie ontbreekt de race al jaren. Al vroeg in 2020 werd de Chinese Grand Prix van de kalender verwijderd en hij keerde daarna in 2021 en dit jaar ook niet meer terug op de kalender. De coronaregels in China zijn namelijk zeer streng.

Het was dan ook enigszins een verrassing dat de Grand Prix wel op de kalender voor 2023 stond. De twijfel over het doorgaan van de race is echter al geruime tijd aanwezig. Formule 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali heeft tegenover de internationale media ook zijn twijfel uitgesproken: "Alhoewel de coronasituatie in China een ding blijft en het nog niet zeker is of we er in 2023 racen, blijven we de situatie monitoren en houden we iedereen op de hoogte."

Ik geloof er niks van dat die race doorgaat. Dan moet Xi Jinping wel een drastische wending kunnen uitleggen om van het zero covid beleid af te stappen, zonder gezichtsverlies te lijden.

  Ze gaan in zee met de pfizers van deze wereld.
  Niet dat die zo goed werkte maar altijd nog beter dan de rommel die China zelf heeft.
  
  Dan kunnen ze zeggen nu is er iets dat werkt en nu kunnen we het loslaten.
  Met oversterfte op de koop toe maar kleinigheid hou je altijd.

  Van mij mogen de Chinezen voetballen, schaatsen, racen, handballen en weet ik veel wat voor internationale sporten er allemaal zijn, maar om daar internationale toernooien en/of races van een internationale serie te houden vind ik nog steeds erg hypocriet van de organizatoren.

Je hoort verder ook niks meer of alle coureurs/staf e.d. braaf hun 3e, 4e, 5e en 6e niet werkende vaccin hebben genomen dan wel of dat nog steeds een verplichting is.
