Sainz trots op inhaalactie: "Inhalen van de Red Bull het moeilijkst"

Carlos Sainz reed gisteren in Brazilië een zeer sterke sprint. De Spaanse Ferrari-coureur kwam als tweede over de streep en moet door een motorstraf de race starten vanaf de zevende plaats. Sainz was vooral trots op zijn inhaalactie op Max Verstappen tijdens de spectaculaire sprint.

Sainz was tijdens de slotfase van de sprint op jacht naar de Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur. Verstappen had het lastig maar de Nederlander deed zeker niet rustig aan. Sainz moest alles geven om Verstappen voorbij te steken, de twee raakten elkaar zelfs waardoor de voorvleugel van Verstappen beschadigd raakte. De Nederlandse wereldkampioen kwam uiteindelijk als vierde over de streep.

Aanremmen

Sainz was na afloop vooral blij met de inhaalactie op Verstappen. De Red Bulls zijn dit seizoen zeer sterk en dan ook lastig in te halen. Op de persconferentie voor de top drie sprak Sainz zich uit: "Het was krap. Wanneer je een Red Bull gaat inhalen, dan weet je dat je het moet riskeren tijdens het aanremmen. Je kan hem er op het rechte stuk niet naast gooien. Het inhalen van de Red Bull was waarschijnlijk het aller moeilijkst."

Na afloop klaagde Verstappen niet over de touché met Sainz, de stewards stelden tevens geen onderzoek in. Ook Sainz zag er geen kwaad in: "Ik moest het proberen tijdens het aanremmen. Ik verremde mij een beetje en daardoor had ik een beetje contact met Max. Ik denk dat dit fair is, het hoort bij het racen. Uiteindelijk had geen van ons echte schade. Het deed mij denken aan mijn inhaalactie op Checo in 2019."

  Precies! Mooie sprint geweest gisteren en er werd netjes en strak het duel aangegaan door meerdere coureurs.
  Hopelijk wordt ook de hoofdrace net zo spannend en verrassend als gister, met voor mij wel Max op P1 🍀😉
