Sainz kan wel leven met P3: "Moesten noodgedwongen kiezen voor driestopper"

Carlos Sainz kende in Brazilië een zeer goede race. De Spaanse Ferrari-coureur startte vanuit de buik van de top tien na een motorstraf maar na afloop stond hij toch op het podium. Sainz werd derde, hij mocht die positie behouden van zijn team nadat teamgenoot Charles Leclerc in de slotfase smeekte voor een teamorder.

Leclerc kende een dramatische race met een vroeg touché met Lando Norris in de openigsfase. Het werd daarna een lastige middag voor de Monegask. Sainz ging op zijn beurt als de brandweer en hij hield het hoofd overduidelijk koel. Na de tweede herstart passeerde hij de Red Bull van Sergio Perez en stelde hij de podiumplek veilig.

Na afloop meldde de Spanjaard zich redelijk tevreden bij de microfoon van interviewer van dienst Felipe Massa. Sainz gaf daar aan dat een remprobleem voor nieuwe strategische plannen zorgden: "Ik denk dat het over het algemeen een goede race was. We hadden een paar probleempjes met de brandende remmen. We moesten dus noodgedwongen kiezen voor de driestopper. Misschien was dat vandaag niet de snelste optie met deze bandendegradatie maar ik moest wel pushen om Checo te kunnen pakken."

Echt een hele goede race gereden door Sainz. Wat mij betreft de man van de wedstrijd vandaag.
Ja, Russell pakt z'n eerste overwinning, dus die zal 'm wel krijgen. Maar om met de veel mindere Ferrari toch goed bij de Mercedes te blijven en zelfs de Red Bull te pakken. Prima prestatie.
