Russell wijst Red Bull aan als favoriet: "Vergeleken met Ferrari zien we er goed uit"

George Russell kende een zeer solide eerste dag in Abu Dhabi. De Britse Mercedes-coureur reed in de eerste training de tweede tijd en ook in de tweede training bleef hij op die plaats steken. Ondanks de sterke prestaties wijst Russell vooral naar Red Bull Racing.

Russell maakte een zeer relaxte indruk op het Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. De Brit, sinds zondag een Grand Prix-winnaar, bleef bijvoorbeeld kalm toen hij tijdens de tweede vrije training vast kwam te zitten in het verkeer. Hij noteerde in die sessie dus de tweede tijd op slechts 0,341 seconden van de snelste tijd van Max Verstappen.

Red Bull

Russell wijst dan ook naar Verstappens team Red Bull Racing. De Brit denkt dat de Oostenrijkse constructeurskampioen in Abu Dhabi de favoriet is. Bij Autoport spreekt Russell zich uit: "Het voelde best snel aan maar ik denk dat Red Bull nog net iets sneller is. Over één rondje denk ik dat ze zo'n twee tienden voorliggen en in de long runs is dat gat waarschijnlijk groter. We moeten vannacht een klein beetje werk verrichten, vergeleken met Ferrari zien we er goed uit."

Racerun

Russell rekent dus niet op een pole position. De Brit is bezig met een goede reeks maar hij denkt niet dat een tweede Grand Prix-zege op rij er in zit: "In de racerun zaten we dus iets achter Red Bull. We weten dat ze een slippery auto hebben op de rechte stukken, dat is heel efficiënt. Op een circuit zoals deze, met twee lange rechte stukken en veel langzame bochten, past dat heel erg goed bij hen."

deze verhaaltjes had rb ook altijd, 3 keer per jaar lukte het... maar voor de rest was je kansloos. max gaat deze domineren als hij heel blijft.

  Aan de andere kant, Checo z’n enige concurrent is Leclerc en als ie die niet eens voor kan blijven met de huidige auto is het wel heel slecht met ‘m gesteld.

Naar mijn idee gaat Max voor pole, en rijd zo snel als hij kan weg bij de rest. Dan is het aan Perez zelf om de 2de plek veilig te stellen.

Wat eigenlijk al zijn opdracht het hele jaar was nadat Max de kop positie overnam van Leclerc. Word nog een leuke uitdaging voor Red Bull qua strategie om Perez, als hij P5 blijft, voor Leclerc te krijgen.
