Ralf Schumacher ziet Mercedes als perfecte tussenstap voor Mick Schumacher

Mick Schumacher zit aankomend seizoen zonder stoeltje in de Formule 1. De jonge Duitser kreeg geen nieuw contract bij Haas en werd vervangen door Nico Hülkenberg. Schumacher aast nu op een reservestoeltje bij Mercedes en volgens zijn oom Ralf Schumacher is dit een slimme zet.

Mick Schumacher kende dit jaar een zeer lastig seizoen bij het team van Haas. De Duitser crashte meerdere keren zeer hard en werd veelvuldig verslagen door zijn teamgenoot Kevin Magnussen. Schumacher scoorde wel zijn eerste punten maar dit bleek niet genoeg te zijn voor een nieuw contract bij de Amerikaanse renstal. Ook zijn contract bij het juniorenteam van Ferrari liep af, hierdoor kan hij nu gaan en staan waar hij maar wil.

Tussenstap

Het team van Mercedes toonde eerder al verregaande interesse in Schumacher, echter is er nog niets getekend. Micks oom Ralf Schumacher vindt dit in ieder geval een slimme zet. Bij de Duitse tak van Sky Sports spreekt oud-coureur Ralf zich uit: "Mick mikt op een stoeltje maar hij moet eerst een tussenstap maken als reserve bij Mercedes. Dat is een verstandige stap. Hij komt daar bij een team met veel ervaring en dat helpt Mick vooruit. De processen bij Haas en Mercedes zijn heel erg verschillend, daar kan hij van profiteren."

Ralf Schumacher is tevens van mening dat de omgeving bij Mercedes goed zal zijn voor de ontwikkeling van zijn racende neef. Hij ziet immers veel grote namen rondlopen bij Mercedes: "Het is heel erg belangrijk om bij een team als Mercedes aan de gang te gaan. Hij kan daar plaats nemen in de simulator en dingen leren van Lewis Hamilton en George Russell. Dat zijn allebei racewinnaars. Lewis heeft zelfs wereldtitels gewonnen! De ervaring ligt daar voor het oprapen."

Mick liever een andere hobby zoeken. Dit gaat hem niet worden. Hoe jammer en erg ik het ook vind.

  Ik twijfel nog steeds. Hij heeft meermaals laten zien sneller te zijn dan gevestigd coureur Magnussen. Dat biedt toch perspectief zou je zeggen. Ik denk dat hij vooral koelbloedigheid mist. Dat is menselijk gezien wel een mooie eigenschap, maar in de Formule 1 kun je het toch aardig gebruiken…

  Magnussen is geen gevestigde coureur, die had voor 2022 geen stoeltje , juist omdat hij net als Schumacher weinig bracht

  In zekere zin is Schumacher oorlogsslachtoffer. Als Mazepin daar nog het tweede jaar had gezeten, was Schumacher nu op weg naar een promotie.
  Het zure ook is dat ie tegelijk met Tsunoda erin kwam, hij als F2-kampioen, en Tsu als nr 3. En Tsunoda zit er nog steeds.

Tussenstap op weg naar de uitgang dan. Misschien is het Ralf ontgaan, maar Mick zat al in F1. Dit klusje in 2023 is, hoe je het ook wendt of keert, een stap terug.
Tenzij hij een DeVriesje doet bij een invalbeurt, is het exit na volgend jaar.

Ome Ralf heeft deels gelijk. Denk dat Mick zwaar tekort komt voor de F1, maar met zo'n contract bij Mercedes blijft hij tenminste wel in beeld. Een andere bijkomstigheid is dat je in de simulator geen auto kan afschrijven, nietwaar.....
